  • SSR
  • Finish career coat of arms while spot-checking the note cards for errors.
  • Think-Pair-Share – What was the most interesting thing you found out about your career?
  • Work in small groups to decide which topics go together; then decide as a class what order things should be in.
  • Identify any information needs
  • What is a thesis statement? Mini-lecture. Take notes on the concept map
  • Practice writing a thesis statement and share with the class.

  • Make a plan for writing
  • Write effective introductions using third person point of view

Procedures:

  • Library Day today
  • We will spend 2, 5, and 6th period in the computer lab finishing up research.
  • Students will complete the pre-writing worksheet to start planning their paper and write a brief outline for their papers.
  • We will talk about what makes a good introduction and practice writing effective grabbers and composing introductory paragraphs.

Procedure:

We will be going to the computer lab to work on the research paper. Students will type up a rough draft of their Works Cited page and begin working on a second rough draft of their research paper.

We will be in the computer lab typing up the second rough draft of the research paper. Students who finish early will be given an enrichment assignment to go along with our next unit.

  • Think-Pair-Share: Do you think that Mr. Pignati is a believable character? Why or why not?
  • In groups of 4, analyze the relationship between John and his parents.
  • In groups of 8, decide which characters in the novel might be considered social outcasts and why.
  • Finally – choose one character – John or Lorraine – and write a RAFT paragraph from their point of view.
