EXPECTATIONS OF SCHOOL LEADERS 2015

A potential school leader will:

Demonstrate commitment in Academic / Cultural / Sporting areas

Show pride in their efforts and achievements.

Behave in a manner becoming of school leader. Actively support and uphold the values of school (GSHS Code of Conduct – Respect themselves and others)

Lead by example through a high level of attendance & participation in our SWPBS

Participate in a range of school curricular and extracurricular activities.

Demonstrate commitment to their roles and responsibilities as a school leader:

Maintain expected attendance at school.

To fulfil this role, a School Leader will be:

ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES 2015

SCHOOL CAPTAIN (2)

Overall running of Student Council and Executive meetings (Chairperson).

Liaising with Staff Adviser and Admiinistration Staff about matters raised by the Student Council and Student Executive.

Liaising with chairpersons of Student Council committees.

Liaising with Secretary/Treasurer of Student Council regarding their duties and the presentation of the agenda.

Representing the school in the wider community.

Speaking on full school assemblies and award ceremonies.

SCHOOL VICE CAPTAIN (2)

Take on Captain duties should they be unable to perform them.

Speaking at Full School Assemblies.

Responsible for notifying Council members of dates and locations of meetings, preparing meeting agendas, keeping minutes of all meetings, and dealing with incoming and outgoing correspondence (Secretary)

HOUSE CAPTAIN (8) -SPORTS & RECREATION COMMITTEE

  • Liaise with Sports Co-ordinator & House Masters to promote and assist in matters relating to the following:

·interhouse carnivals

·lunchtime activities

·teacher V’s student matches

·house presentations for full school assembly.

  • Leadership in major and other interhouse carnivals and events
  • Help run House Parades
  • Promote the ‘spirit’ in the house.
  • On a weekly basis, update the HPE Noticeboard with newspaper clippings, highlighting the sporting achievements of GSHS students (1 term per house)
  • Actively promote & support healthy living initiatives in the area including Jump rope for Heart, Botanic to Bridge, Woolworths/Coles competitions etc.

EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE (14)

(8 Executive members, 1 SEP Leader, 1 Indigenous Leader & the 4 school captains)

Liaising with various school committees as the student representatives in the development, implementation and promotion of school policies.

Operating with Captains and Vice Captains in executive meeting to formalise the student’s issues and points of discussion.

Take on duties of the Vice-Captains should the need arise.

Organise activities to support the initiatives of support staff in the school (chaplain, nurse, SBPO)

Follow through on issues that arise through the year eg. may have to conduct surveys, create committees.

Assist House Captains in promoting house spirit.

Assist in the planning & running of the various award & speech days throughout the year

Liaise with Junior Student Council members & Yr7/8/9 leaders to discuss issues pertaining to specific year levels or the entire school.

Keep record of financial transactions & presenting a report at meetings.

Working with the committees regarding any funds or petty cash required.

Organise & conduct fundraising activities.

Speak at Year level assemblies, when required (2 members per year level)

Co-ordinate charity events at the school by liaising with the charity organisation in the ordering of materials for sale, of Door Knock information and promoting the support of it within the school

Provide opportunities that allow students to discover and showcase their talentsthrough lunchtime entertainment, musical exhibitions, band playouts, Arts Council visits and talent quest.

Co-ordinate monthly tidy-up (eg. Litter & gardens) to be completed by Year 12 student body.

Co-ordinate with the Band Captain, to assist with upcoming events.

Promote and advertise initiatives of the Student Council and their committees within the school.

Promote and advertise school activities through the school newsletter, local newspapers and the school billboard.

Help with the production of the school magazine.

INDIGENOUS LEADER (1)

Will carry out the duties of an Executive Committee member along with the following:

  • Student must engage in the ARTIE Program
  • Student must participate in and assist in facilitating NAIDOC celebrations, ATAP, cultural activities/ excursions
  • Encourage other Indigenous students to engage in ARTIE
  • Present welcome to country at school events
