Expectations of a DeMolay Chapter’s
MASTER COUNCILOR
BEFORE THE TERM
- Complete or begin your Representative DeMolay.
- Complete the Leadership Correspondence Course (all five lessons).
- Memorize and show proficiency in the Master Councilor’s portion of the ritual (includes Opening and Closing, Initiatory Degree, and Fourth Section in the DeMolay Degree).
- Survey the Chapter to see what activities they would like to have during the term.
- Plan your term calendar as Master Councilor with assistance of the Dad Advisor.
- Plan your term budget as Master Councilor with assistance of the Dad Advisor.
- Present Term Calendar and Budget to Advisory Council and Chapter Members for their vote of approval prior to your Installation.
- Establish Chapter Committees (ie. Communications, Membership, Ritual, Athletics, etc).
- Set Chapter and Personal Goals to accomplish during the term.
- Plan your Installation as Master Councilor.
- Submit a PMC-MSA Letter of Intent (within 10 days following the installation).
DURING THE TERM
- Exemplify both degrees of the Order, along with your degree team, from memory, at least once during your term of office.
- Continue or establish an active membership recruitment program.
- Induct at least 6 new members during your term of office. At least one of them should be with you as the First Line signer.
- Hold at least one (2-3 are better) of each of the following activities:
- SOCIAL
- CIVIC (COMMUNITY) SERVICE
- MASONIC SERVICE
- ATHLETIC
- FUND-RAISING
- Observe each Obligatory Day that falls during your term of office.
- Continue or establish programs that increase or maintain a high level of attendance at Chapter Meetings.
- Effective Chapter Meetings (following a pre-planned Meeting Agenda).
- Chapter Newsletters or other forms of written communications to the members and advisors.
- Email/Text/Phone calls about Chapter Meetings and Activities (at least 10 days in advance with reminders at least 3 days before event).
- Ensure that all Form 10s and Chapter Reports are submitted on time during your term.
- Show the Youth Protection Video (coordinated with the Dad Advisor and/or Chairman).
- Hold pre-planning meetings with chapter members and advisors to establish an event outline, budget, activity schedule, and ensure all details are set for all activities (at least 45 days prior to event date).
- Lead twice-monthly Councilor meetings with the assistance of the Dad Advisor.
- Attend Advisory Council meeting to report on past and upcoming activities.
- Follow your Budget as outlined and voted on by the membership.
- Provide activities that the members want and desire.
- Work with the other Councilors so they are ready to take over when it is their turn.
- Seek candidates for entering the elected line of officers.
- Use your resources – other members, parents, advisors and the Masonic family.
- Ask for help when needs from your Dad Advisor.
- You are the leader of the chapter – act the part and set the example.
- Take responsibility for your term of office.
AFTER THE TERM
- Complete and submit a PMC-MSA Letter of Completion/Supplementary Form within 10 days our your going out of office Installation.
- Thank you letters and Thank you notes.
- Continue to support the Chapter.
- Mentor the Councilors and New Members.
- Chair events to share your experience and leadership with the chapter.
