FACT (Foundation for Art and Creative Technology) is the UK's leading organisation for commissioning, exhibiting, promoting and supporting artists’ work and innovation in the fields of film, video, and new media. We believe in the ability of individuals and communities to express themselves creatively, and we work with international artists to develop exhibitions, increase knowledge about new technologies and their social impact. Housed in the iconic FACT building in the historic Ropewalks area, two galleries and state-of-the-art cinemas invite visitors to experience a range of FACT activities from exhibitions and live webcasts, to training and conferences.
FACT’s Artistic Programme
FACT’s Artistic Programme delivers high impact events of international quality and relevance, informed and supported by excellence in presentation, research and innovation, learning, and new models of community and audience engagement.
It is conceived and developed as a cohesive and holistic array of activities, it articulates its agenda across four distinct but interconnected strands of programme: Exhibitions, Research and Innovation, Collaborations and Engagement, and Public Programmes. Themes and subjects are explored and tackled explicitly from every strand of programme, with the objective of providing multiple entry points for all audiences, regardless of their social background, age range, or level of expertise.
FACT’s Exhibitions Programme
Our Exhibitions programme is made up of distinct, unique experiences that challenge conventional formats of presentation and provide ever-changing worlds for the visitor. Spilling out of the galleries, into the public realm and online space, we work with partners, curators, artists and designers to tackle contemporary issues through thought-provoking yet accessible exhibitions. We see exhibition-making not just as the showcasing of outputs, but as a full process encompassing research, production, engagement, presentation, dissemination and distribution.
Our Public Programmes and pop-up exhibitions are a key part of our engagement model, which aims to involve all audiences in the spheres of art and creative technologies: blurring the boundaries between creator and spectator. Here, we are able to flexibly experiment with new types of relationships between audiences andproducers and actively engage visitors with creative processes which usually take place behind closed doors, in research labs or artists’ studios. Including pop-up maker workshops, micro-residencies, product testing and creative propositions, interactive installations or expositions, these strands give visibility to our extensive Collaborations & Engagement work, as well as showcasing some of FACTLab’s methods and experiments.
