FLSSAR Veterans Recognition

The FLSSAR Veterans Recognition Committee (VRC) is soliciting your assistance in providing information for new members for the Florida Veterans Battalion Data Base. The purpose of this Battalion is for the FLSSAR organization to show that we care for all veterans. We have attached a registration form for your use. This form is for use at the Chapter level and will be completed upon acceptance of the applicant as a new Compatriot by Registration number from NSSAR and assignment of a FLSSAR number. The Form may also be used to collect information from current Chapter members to determine eligibly for membership in the FLSSAR Battalion. The form can be completed and transmitted to the VRC for inclusion in the Florida Battalion data base with a certificate sent to the Chapter for presentation to the new FLSSAR Veterans Battalion member.

There are two types of recognition for veterans, the FLSSAR Veterans Battalion, and the NSSAR Veterans Corps. Each program has different requirements as described on the individual survey forms. The Florida Veterans Battalion requirements are for veterans who served in the Armed Forces on Active Duty, Reserve or National Guard and were Honorably Discharged. The NSSAR Corps has more limited requirements to be honored in any of the Corps (WWII, Korean, Vietnam, or Persian Gulf War. Only those veterans eligible for the WSM are eligible for membership in the NSSAR Veterans Corp. The FLSSAR VRC does not process the NSSAR Corp Applications. They need to be sent directly to the NSSAR VRC Committee. Certificates are issued for each program. The FLSSAR Battalion Certificate is signed by the FLSSAR President and the VRC Chairman. The NSSAR Certificate is signed by the President General.

The process for recognition of all veterans in the FLSSAR Veterans Battalion is as follows:

1.  Are you a veteran of the United State Armed forces or an Allied Country against a Common enemy?

2.  If the answer in the affirmative, then would you be willing to show a copy of the DD 214 or appropriate document with the application for further recognition as a veteran.

3.  You can determine then determine if you are would be eligible for the War Service Medal or the Military Service Medal under the guidelines of your Chapter or the FLSSAR. Go to this web site for the requirements: http://www.flssar.org/FLSSAR/FlBtn.htm

4.  The medal can be purchased by the applicant or the Chapter and can be presented along with a certificate at some future date.

5.  To apply for the Florida Battalion go to the following web site: http://www.flssar.org/FLSSAR/Tabs.asp open form “Veterans Battalion Survey FLSSAR” which is attached to this memo and fill out the survey and forward it to the FLSSAR VRC Committee.

6.  The FLSSAR VRC will provide the certificates for the Florida Battalion to the chapters by Email upon receipt of the survey.

That’s it! All Florida Veterans are now recognized with your help as we increase the size our FLSSAR Organization.

Veterans who are eligible for the Florida Battalion may or may not be eligible for either the War Service Medal (WSM) or the Military Service Medal (MSM) as determined by the information delivered to your Chapter Secretary or the FLSSAR Veterans Recognition Committee.
