FUNCTION: PHARMACY TECHNICIAN

REPORTS TO: PHARMACY OWNER

SUMMARY DESCRIPTION:

Primary responsibility is to assist pharmacist and be accountable for the coordination of all deliveries of prescriptions.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

·  Assist pharmacist, under direct supervision, in the practice of the pharmacy, in accordance with local, state, federal and company regulations.

·  Assist pharmacist in labeling and filling prescriptions.

·  Demonstrate ability to apply mathematical skills, such as calculating figures and amounts, discounts, proportions, percentages, and volume to practical situations.

·  Act as a liaison between patient, family and pharmacist. Receive and distribute prescriptions. (Pharmacist does consultation)

·  Create a profile on patient’s health and insurance information.

·  Document all customers charges, payments and prescription information on appropriate forms (charge slips, Medicaid, HIPAA signatures, insurance forms, etc.)

·  Verify customer receives correct prescriptions. (Proper ID)

·  Screen and answer phone promptly and relay pertinent information to appropriate staff. Communicate with prescribers and their agents to obtain refill authorization. Relay all prescription refills and medication inquires to pharmacist.

·  Take accurate messages.

·  Work with insurance carriers to obtain payments and refilling authority.

·  Prepare call in orders and/or prepare them for deliveries, if applicable.

·  Maintain accuracy filling prescriptions, (counting, reading scripts & RX labels).

·  Coordinate work flow to achieve maximum productivity and efficiency.

·  Keep pharmacy neat and clean. Make sure all pertinent patient information is disposed of properly. (Shredded, not thrown in the trash).

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS CONTINUED:

·  Follow ALL HIPAA Security & Privacy Standards:

·  Maintain confidentiality of customers information while at work and off duty

·  Do not discuss patient medication and information openly or carelessly

·  Keep confidentiality a number one priority

·  Guard/cover log book while customers are standing around the counter

·  Keep all receipts and prescription bags out of sight of customers

·  Keep telephone calls about patient information confidential

·  Follow all store policies and procedures.

·  Proficiency with using cash register properly, while assisting customers with merchandise and prescriptions as necessary.

·  Maintain and manage RX sections in the pharmacy.

·  Check in, label and put up orders from suppliers (accuracy).

·  Review products to ensure proper placement of inventory.

·  Implement price change stickers and new item shelf tags from Mutual.

·  Utilize average monthly movement for reordering items.

·  Report anything that may need to be addressed to follow policies & procedures.

·  Utilize weekly Money Maker and CAPS specials.

·  Maintain close working relationship with all employees to achieve maximum results.

·  Assist other technicians.

·  Maintain a personal appearance that is neat, clean, and professional. Adhere to dress code appropriate to area.

·  Maintain ALL regulatory & educational requirements.

SPECIFIC WORK TASKS REQUIRED: SPECIFIC SKILLS

·  Collect prescriptions from patients.
·  Prepare, label & count medication.

·  Assist with compounding of oral solutions, creams & ointments.

·  Verify credit acceptance by reviewing driver’s license information and operate credit card authorization system.

·  Visually inspect RX dept. for out of date and proper placement of product.
·  Remove out of date items and prepare them for return to manufacturer or Mutual.
·  Remove slow or non-moving items from shelves.
·  Order items that are out of stock or give information to store owner for ordering.
·  Print and read weekly Money Maker, new item review, recalls, and industry news.
·  Replace Shelf labels and add new products.
