EXAMPLE OF COMPLETED BUDGET FORM

Budgeting for your period abroad

Financial Statement

To ensure that you can afford to study/work abroad please complete a financial plan for your preferred Partner University, based on 5 or 9 months (12 months if you are doing a paid PTY abroad) expenditure, as appropriate. This is an essential step in preparing to go on exchange. You need to research potential expenses and living costs and give an estimate of likely costs. Research sources can include host university websites and individual subject handbooks on Surrey Learn or information from previous students. Please note: while bursaries and grants are available you should not rely on anticipated bursaries or grants when budgeting. You will not be required to provide evidence to back up your financial statement. However, some host universities (including all American universities) will require you to show that you have access to this money when you submit your host university or visa application. You should complete a table like the one below for your first choice Partner University. If your second and third choices are very different, you should indicate the difference in costs for these. If you are planning a work placement then under “Other” on the right-hand side put your anticipated salary.
