Evergreen Cemetery - Rules & Regulations

  1. The sale, resale, transfer or assignment of any lot or grave is valid only with the Knowledge and consent of the Evergreen Cemetery Association, executed on regulation forms. When title passes into new hands through death of the owner or otherwise, a formal transfer should be filed with the Association. Filing and recording in the books of the Association is the only evidence of title which will be officially recognized.
  1. No burials may be made on a lot or grave, nor any markers or monuments placed on a lot or grave, without permission from the owner or legal representative and the ECA superintendent.To initiate new markings or delete any existing gravestone markings, a $10 fee must be paid, at which time it must be indicated who will do the work required. A diagram of existing markings or lettering on the gravestone must be submitted, together with a diagram in a different color of what is intended to be inscribed. The superintendent will visit the site to review the proposed alterations and must approve them before work is started. A deed of ownership check is completed before any alterations to the gravestones are allowed, and written permission must be obtained from the superintendent to use other than an engraver who is on an approved list prepared by the Evergreen Cemetery.
  1. Foundations with aprons must be placed under all monuments and raised markers. The Association reserves the right to excavate for and build all foundations, and such work must be paid for in advance. Only experienced monument workers may erect monuments with Superintendent Approval and they must conform to the Monument schedule set forth below. No monument foundations will be installed after November 1.
  1. All markers are to be flush with the ground (so called grass markers) except on lots on which raised markers have been erected already, and such raised markers shall be set on foundation with aprons.
  1. There shall be only one monument on a lot, a single grave or group of single graves.
  1. All work proposed on lots or graves by the owner must first have the approval of the Superintendent, who will supervise all such work if authorized, particularly the location of all planting of flowers and shrubs. NO SHRUBS SHALL BE PLACED ON ANY LOT OR GRAVE WITHOUT THE APPROVAL OF THE SUPERINTENDENT. Planting of evergreens is restricted to one on each side of a monument. No broadleaf evergreens or deciduous shrubs may be planted on or among the lots or graves. No artificial flowers, mulch, or small stones may be placed on lots.
  1. To be certain that all shrubbery looks well, the Association reserves the right to have the shearing of all evergreens done annually. It has become necessary over the years for the Association to remove shrubs which have become unsightly because of age, storms, vandalism, or for any other reason when they no longer contribute to the beauty of the cemetery.
  1. To facilitate mowing with power mowers: it will not be permitted to build fences or copings of any sort, around monuments, lots, or graves, nor to grade or place corner stones, curbing or markers above the general level. Sheppard’s Hooks, statues, trinkets or overly ostentatious decorations will be removed at the discretion of the Superintendent. Flowerbeds must be kept close to the monuments or in line with them not to exceed 10” in front of stone base. Please a use metal or plastic container kept close in front to the monument if direct planting is not being done.Do not use glass or glazed pottery containers for flowers. They can be a great danger to personnel operating our power mowers, and will be removed immediately when discovered. Please check first with the Superintendent before placing items or working on cemetery lots.
  1. MEMORIAL DAY - All cut flowers, sprays, potted flowers, and plants may remain for ten days after the holiday, and those still in good condition may remain longer at the discretion of cemetery personnel. During the remainder of the flowering growing season, personnel shall remove flowers, plants, or anything, which, in our opinion, has reached the point where it is no longer contributes to the beauty of the cemetery.
  1. No urns unless it is part of a monument or rests on the same foundation with a monument, shall be placed upon any lot.
  1. No dogs or running of pets, andno Snowmobiles, ATV’s, or Dirt Bikes are allowed in the cemetery.

There shall be no statues as monuments or part of monuments. No memorial depicting a human body, or any part thereof, whether symbolic, religious, or otherwise, shall be permitted on any lot containing less than 320 square feet. All monuments must have the official approval of the Superintendent and Board of Trustees. Photographs, porcelain, plastic, protective glass or breakable material of any kind shall not be incorporated in any memorial. Bizarre or bulky stones or those with elaborate or ostentatious carving will not be permitted.
