Events and Community Intern

Children in Crisis are looking for an intern to join the Events and Community team. The successful candidate will be an enthusiastic, motivated pro-active individual hoping to get experience working in events and community fundraising.

The role will help you to develop fundraising skills and really boost your CV. We will help improve your employability with on-the-job training and the opportunity to assist with the delivery and on-the-day logistics at both special and challenge events.

Children in Crisis provides education, protection, and better life opportunities for children who because of war, remoteness and lack of government services, are missing out on quality schooling. At the heart of our work is the belief that education improves health and livelihood, unites communities and builds peace.

Job Description

ROLE Events & Community Intern

OVERSEEN BY Fundraising and Office Assistant

START DATEMid-March 2014

TIME PERIOD4 – 6 months

HOURS PER WEEK2 – 3 days per week

Key Responsibilities

Source auction/raffle prizes for future special events

-Draft/edit letter to be sent to companies, hotels, etc from our records on Raiser’s Edge and spreadsheets to request donation of a prize to be used at future events

-Research & approach further companies, hotels, activities to mail prize-ask letter to

Challenge Events

-Researching possible places to advertise challenge events & support recruitment of participation

-Research opportunities to attract own place runners to our challenge events

Schools and Community Fundraising

-Research into RAGs to fundraise for Children in Crisis

-Work with the team to help create database of RAG contacts

-Work with the team to help create marketing and fundraising materials bespoke to this area

General Fundraising duties

-Attend London Marathon 2014 to help at the post-race reception and cheer points and Art Antiques London Party in the Park to assist with on-the-day logistics at the gala and fair.

-Data entry of event participants onto Raiser’s Edge

-Sending out tickets for events

-Participating in monthly All Staff meetings and fortnightly Fundraising meetings

General Office Duties

-Opening post and allocating it to staff.

-Franking and sorting outgoing post.

-Answering and diverting calls from the mainline phone.

-Helping with general tasks of the team.

PERSONAL SPECIFICATION

Skills and Experience Needed

Essential

-An enthusiasm for working in the charity sector, specifically in a fundraising role

-Excellent communication skills both written and oral

-Organised with attention to detail

-Excellent research skills (to include web based and over the phone)

-The ability to use your own initiative and work within specified guidelines

-Confidence in using Microsoft Office packages – Word, Publisher, Excel and PowerPoint.

-Confident and professional telephone manner

-Positive attitude, particularly to learning new tasks and skills

-Creative and lateral thinking

-Ability to work as part of a team

-A desire to improve the quality of life of vulnerable and disadvantaged children around the world

Desirable

-Experience of using Raiser’s Edge

-Experience of mass mailing

-Some experience and understanding of events management

-Regular progress and development meetings during your time with us

-Travel (up to a zone 1-6 travel card) and lunch expenses will be provided

-An induction into Children in Crisis and the Fundraising Department and any training required for the role, including in the use of Raisers Edge (dependent on length of internship)

-During your time volunteering you will be part of the Fundraising team and will be able to draw on the team for guidance and advice, including CV and job hunting tips
