Event Research and Sales Manager - IFB 2016

Main Purpose of the Job

To market research high quality international business, conferences andevents in a range of key sectors which will provide the IFB 2016 with appropriate content to ensure a high profile and effective business festival.

To develop sales leads through a variety of databases and sources, with event organisers, to determine interest in holding events in Liverpool during IFB 2016 and progress these leads as appropriate.

To produce a targeted events procurement plan.

  • None

Main Areas of Responsibility:

  • To identify relevant international conference databases and other sources of high profile events.
  • To develop a ‘target list’ of high profile events that:
  • Are appropriate to the main business festival themes
  • Will attract international delegations
  • Share findings with IFB 2016 management team with proposals for developing sales leads with appropriate high profile event organisers.
  • Identify those events that are suitable for IFB 2016 content.
  • Contribute to the development of an agreed script and commercial offer for external event organisers.
  • Create appropriate bidding documents to convert leads into confirmed events.
  • To identify broader potential opportunities such as possible exhibitions, accommodation,private dining and bolt-on events.
  • Begin process of developing appropriate leads and conversion to agreed booking.

Knowledge, Skills and Experience:

  • Proven research experience, preferably in a sales or conference and event environment.
  • Experience in a destination management organisation or other similar environment as well as good broad destination knowledge.
  • Experience of working with software systems such as Chaser, ICCA, GroupMax or equivalent.
  • Understanding and knowledge of Merseyside’s business tourism offer and products
  • The ability to identify products in the Liverpool City Region that can be packaged effectively for conference organisers.
  • Commercially focussed with an attention to detail.
  • Proven ability to deliver complex tasks to tight deadlines.
  • A self motivator with tenacity and drive and the ability to maintain focus and exercise sound judgement under complex and competing conditions.
  • Excellent attention to detail
  • Resilience and an ability to work well under pressure and prioritise a heavy workload, working both reactively and pro-actively.
  • An excellent communication style and the credibility to gain the relevant buy-in from event organisers.
  • Good written skills for bid / proposal writing
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to develop and maintain excellent internal and external working relationships.
  • High degree of IT literacy and in particular MS Office. Advanced user of MS Excel.
