Evening Discussion for Brothers and Sisters
Getting Prepared for the Conversations that Matter
Wednesday 19th October 2016

This is an accessible version of a flyer for a Brisbane event.
Event Overview
- Families are complex organisms! Despite strong bonds of love and loyalty, families avoid the thorny or most emotionally charged topics – or conversations are fraught. Great fun to watch on a sit-com, but less amusing in real life!
- Families who have a member with disability are not immune, but when a family member relies on others to have a good life, it becomes critical that families find (better) ways to have those conversations that matter.
- This informal evening discussion will address how adult brothers and sisters can be more prepared for crucial conversations with parents and others, whether the focus is on what is happening right now or planning for a future when parents are no longer around.
- The session will include dinner and opportunities for conversation with other brothers and sisters.
- The presentation style will be fun, energising and interactive, while presenting some helpful ideas about how we can understand our own communication style and how we can be more prepared for tricky conversations.
