Overview

Art is a full year class. Art students will engage in learning activities designed to teach visual art appreciation, art in history and culture, personal art production, art criticism, and aesthetics. Studio artwork will include drawing, painting, sculpture, printmaking, weaving, and graphic design.

Goals

·  Students are engaged as creators, historians, aestheticians, and consumers through art experiences.
·  Students develop concepts, skills, and positive attitudes related to art elements and principals, responses to artworks and objects, and the production of personal artworks.

Requirements

Student expectations include respectful class behavior, active class participation, responsibility for turning in homework, journal, and project assignments on the due date, and to do the best work possible for tests and daily classwork.
Behavior Expectations:
Smile and be kind. Don’t hurt anyone or anything. Don’t throw anything.

Evaluation of Requirements per quarter

Standards of Visual Art

1.  Creating artworks with competence in ideas, materials, techniques, and process.
2.  Communicating ideas through composition and the elements and principals of design.
3.  Exploration of various artworks as reference for personal artworks.
4.  Understanding visual art in history, world cultures, technology, and in the various uses of art tools and materials.
5.  Analysis of artworks both personal and by others.
6.  Understanding connections between visual arts and other disciplines, other content areas, and the world.

A little something about your teacher:

Mrs. Cornell grew up in New York. She has lived in Pennsylvania, Oklahoma, Texas, England, Germany, and South Carolina. She has 29 years of teaching experience. She is married and has one daughter and two dogs. She received her B.S. in art education from Kutztown University, PA and her M.A. in art education from The Ohio State University.
