Evaluation Criteria for Instructional Technology Portfolios
These seven criteria will be used to evaluate projects in each separate standard required:
1. Quantity of Work
A. Many projects have been submitted to address this standard.
B. An adequate number of projects are included for this standard.
C. Projects included for this standard are insufficient.
D. No projects have been submitted for this standard.
2. Quality of Work
A. All projects are of high quality and represent excellent work.
B. Some projects are of high quality and in general they represent acceptable work.
C. At least one project needs substantial improvement and revision.
D. Projects are of poor and questionable quality.
3. Annotations
A. Each project includes an annotation providing background information, describes why it is included, and how it reflects the student’s skills and capabilities.
B. Each project is accompanied by a short annotation, with few details.
C. Some projects are accompanied by annotations but some are not.
D. Projects are not accompanied by annotations.
4. Technology Skills Development
A. The projects display significant skills with a variety of different technology tools.
B. The projects display adequate skills levels with technology.
C. The projects indicate marginal skills levels with technology.
D. The projects fail to display sufficient skill with technology.
5. Instructional Effectiveness
A. The projects could be used to very effectively teach students.
B. The projects would provide effective instruction.
C. The projects would help teach, but might have been designed more effectively.
D. The projects are poorly designed for instructional purposes.
6. Reflective statement
A. A reflective statement explains clearly in detail how these projects meet the standard.
B. A reflective statement explains adequately how these projects meet the standard.
C. A reflective statement does not demonstrate sufficient understanding of the standard.
D. No reflective statement included.
7. Addressing the Standards
A. Projects included for this standard effectively address all its subcategories.
B. Some aspects of projects address this standard but expectations are not fully met.
C. Only a few aspects of these projects fit the standard.
D. No projects were submitted or those submitted failed to address this standard.
These five items in a “General Issues” section at the end of the form will evaluate additional required portfolio elements and overall quality:
Resume
A. The student’s resume includes many items and looks veryprofessional.
B. The student’s resume is acceptable in content and appearance.
C. The student’s resume is inadequately developed.
D. No resume is included.
Final Statement
A. The statement is well written and describes how a number of personal objectives and meaningful professional development were addressed in the portfolio.
B. The statement is adequately expressed and describes how some personal objectives and professional development were addressed in the portfolio.
C. The statement is poorly written, not clarifying what types of personal objectives or professional development were addressed in the portfolio.
D. No final reflective statement on overall learning is included.
Appearance
A. The portfolio’s appearance is very engaging and dynamic looking.
B. The portfolio is professional looking and could be an asset in the job market.
C. The portfolio has some sloppy sections or aspects that demonstrate poor visual design.
D. The portfolio is poorly designed in terms of its visual appearance and appeal.
Functionality
A. The portfolio is extremely well organized and very user-friendly.
B. The portfolio is well organized and user-friendly.
C. Parts of the portfolio are poorly organized or difficult to navigate through.
D. The portfolio is difficult to examine in general.
Overall Assessment
A. The portfolio is an impressive display of the student’s accomplishments.
B. The portfolio is a consistently well designed presentation of the student’s accomplishments.
C. The portfolio fails to impress overall, because of some weak sections.
D. The portfolio is poorly designed in general and reflects negatively upon the student.
