1. Interesting

+ There is no balance between interesting or uninteresting topics

-Some interesting topics:

Technology and you; undersea world, national park, the world cup

Why interesting:

Ex:

Unit 5: technology and you

In reading part, the book gives some new terms of contractions like: DVD, CD-Room... thesewords are the contraction of the words which students haven't known  eager to learn

Unit 9: undersea world

In reading part as well as writing, it gives some information about whales or dolphins interesting information

-Some uninteresting topics:

a day in the life of, school talk, people's background, special education, an excursion, the mass media, the story of my village, conversation, music, film and cinema, cities, historical.

Why uninteresting:

Ex:

Unit 1: a day in the life of

Reading part, it just gives some information about Mr Vy and Mrs Tuyet's habits. The students don't have chance to talk about their own habitsboring to them.

Unit 3: Marie Curie's background, a famous physicist but not recent figure not attract students.

+ There is no game, song and interesting activities as well.

-A lot of mechanical drill in activities

Ex: unit 1, speaking, task 1,

Ask students to follow Quan's timetable to talkbut not their own timetable boring to students

Also in task 2, Quan's activities but not their own daily activities not enthusiastic to talk

Interesting or uninteresting is depending on how teachers explore the topic in effective methods.

Unit 2: sports, games,holidays...

Unit 5: television, program of TV, VTV1, VTV2, VTV3..

 related to student life

The book is related to student life.

In general, our group thinks the book is not interesting to students.

2. Teacher- friendly

- How the book is organized:

+ A book map contains 5 columns for five parts (units, reading, speaking, listening, writing, language focus) and 16 rowsare correlative to 16 units.

+The book map looks clear and convenient so that teacher and students don’t have to turn page by page to find the items covered in the book.

+ This book contains 16 units, generally, each of these units deal with an area of grammar.

Ex: Unit 1, in the language part, grammar points are: the present tense, the past tense

Unit 2: Wh- question, gerunds or infinitives

After each grammar points, there are some exercises help teacher know how much his/her students catch from the lesson

+A glossary of new words with the key work of each unit and the pronunciation of those words (P181-191)  save teachers’ time.(Because Teacher doesn’t have to teach all students’ unknown words)

+ Constantstructure:fixed system of lessons easy for teacher to use to prepare lesson plan and saves Teacher’s time

+ Noindex,no function column (as Tieng Anh 10 advanced) it’s an inconvenient of teacher when using it.

+answer key:provided in teacher’s bookconvenient for teacher.

It supplies the students basic skills: reading (students know how to guess the meaning of words basing on context, how to get main idea in a passage) , listening( student can hear a story or a song...), speaking( student can communicate with others or foreigner with simple conversation), writing (student know how to write a letter of invitation, complaint,or to write a description of a location or a narrative)

It also gives students grammar points (the present tense, the past tense or gerund…)
