Make sure you read "What's New", by pressing F2 and selecting option #4 (after installation). Maybach modelsand other new chassis are in this edition, W203, 209, 211, etc... Some data may have moved to a different groupthan where it has been historically. For example, the alternator for a W211 E55 AMG is not under Engine Electrical,it is under the Chassis Electrical section.

ATTENTION!

This EPC will NOT run on Windows 95, 98, 98SE, or ME!

This program has been verified to work properly on Windows 2000 and Windows XP Professional. Installing onXP Home may require additional procedures, outlined laterin this Read Me file.

Please go to windowsupdate.microsoft.com and install all the "Critical Updates" for Windows, BEFORE installing the EPC.

If you are running 95/98/ME, either upgrade to W2K/XP, or downgrade to the older 02/2000 EPC (which has been confirmed to work with Windows 9x versions).

Installation instructions & notes (updated December 2004):

======

If you have an older MBNA EPC installed already, like the Sept-01 or Feb-00 versions, you can simply click "install.exe" on Disc 1 and it will automatically update your existing EPC to the newer version with 2002 data, prices, etc. Confirm thisfrom the main splash screen, it should say August 2002.

You MUST uninstall any Euro EPC's before installing this EPC.Installing this EPC "on top of" an existing EPC will "break"the previous installation, and the new install will probably not work properly. To uninstall, run the uninstaller located on EPC disc 1 in the path \INSTALL\MISC\BHUNINST.EXE

Only one EPC can be installed on a computer unless you havemultiple boot partitions, then you can have one EPC for eachbootable volume/system combination.

Insert Disc 1 and run the file named "Install.exe", which hasan icon that says "B&H Update". DO NOT run "Setup.exe"! Select"Server" installation (this is important – do NOT select “Client” installation.) The next several dialog boxes can beleft at the default settings, just keep clicking "Next".

Note: You may see a "Root file not found..." error message. If so, ignore it and continue the installation.

Note: If you get a dialog box asking for "Network host (server)name", go back and make sure you selected "Server" install and not "Client". If you did it properly, cancel the install, runthe uninstaller, reboot the PC, and try again.

Select "USA" or "Canada" depending on your location, click Next.When asked if you want to copy to the hard drive, select "yes".You will need 1.3GB free on your drive, although the actualspace used is only about half that. If you don't have 1.3G freeit won't let you continue. If you have the required free space, select both discs 1 and 2,then choose which drive letter you want to copy the data to.Click Next and follow the instructions on the screen, you willbe asked to insert Disc 2 when it finishes copying Disc 1.

At the end you will get a message that your Path has changed, click OK, then it will prompt you to restart your computer.After the reboot you should be able to start the EPC by lookingfor the new program group with the name "DB EPCs" in your Start menu, andclicking on "Mercedes-Benz North America." After it launches, you should see thepretty blue screen with a photo of an SLK. If so, installationwas successful. If not, you may need to uninstall, reboot, and

start all over again.

Note: Sometimes for reasons unknown to me, after installationand attempting to start the EPC, you may get an error that aDLL file could not be found in the Windows Path settings (generally, it complains “Unable to locate bhteifc.dll”.)What has fixed this every time is copying the contents of the\BHROOT\EMUL\BIN directory into \BHROOT\BIN. After you copy those files, re-start the PC, it should work fine now.

Note: I have only tested & installed the 2002 EPC on several Windows 2000 and XP Pro computers. Other people have made it work on XP Home and NT4. It is probable that XP Home will require the use of Virtual CD, Daemon Tools, or other CD emulation software. Another option, instead of using Virtual CD, is to put both discs in physical CD-ROM drives. This is a little slower but saves hard disk space, and you won't need to use Virtual CD.

Other requirements are 1024x768 screen resolution, and you may also need a minimum of 128MB of RAM.

Pricing Information

======

Pricing note: Tool part numbers (xxx-589-xx-xx-xx) will not display a price. The older EPC, dated Feb-2000, did have tool pricing. The 2002 EPC does not. The August 2002 prices on this EPC saves alot of time when you just needan approximate cost. Some itemshave increased dramatically (double or more) so ALWAYS verifypricing before placing your order!For tool pricing, and more current part prices, check out DuvalMotorcars website. Their displayed “MSRP” price is usually fairly close to current pricing. Deduct approximately 20% to determine wholesale cost on most items (excluding B6- or Q- accessories, and tools). All tool pricing shown is dealer COST, add approximately 30% to the tool prices shown. Duval’s website is at this URL:

Several parts vendors in the USA will sell genuine Mercedes-Benz parts at 10-20% off MSRP. Duval Motorcars in FL, Caliber Motors in CA, and Mercedes of Eugene in OR are a few. Also try Rusty Cullens of BuyMBParts.com fame, he has aftermarket parts as well, in addition to wholesale pricing on ‘Genuine Mercedes’ parts. Email or call 800-741-5252.

To buy Euro-only parts that USA dealers refuse to order (i.e. replacement lenses for Euro headlights),go to this URL and contact them via email – but be warned that shipping from Germany is NOT cheap:

Enjoy! 
