England

London

Have had a reputation as the most boring team in England over the last few decades but are not beginning to show signs of unaccustomed stylishness. Anyway, the epidemic of the well-known "Arsenal-neck" condition (caused by spending too much time following the movement of the ball through the air) seems to be abating.

Tottenham Hotspur (Spurs)

Until Kevin-Keegan's Newcastle's side arrived on the scene, Tottenham were every neutral's favourite side and the club is still a by-word for flair and excellence. The double-winning side of the 60's, the "Hoddle and Ardilles" side of the 80's and the "Gascoigne" side of the 90's still hold a central place in the English football consciousness. As the century ends, this giant club is rising from its troubles in the mid-nineties and looks likely to enjoy further success under George Graham.

North-West

Liverpool

Liverpool dominated the english scene in the 70's and 80's and for many years were probably the best club side in Europe, if not the world. But by the end of the eighties, their hold on the top began to slip and they have won comparatively little in the nineties.

Manchester United
