Fingerprinting Procedures

·  A valid and unexpired driver’s license is required. As a primary form of picture identification, a state-issued driver’s license may be presented by an applicant when being fingerprinted.

·  Applicants who have never been fingerprinted with the Alabama State Department of Education or who were fingerprinted before July 1, 1999

must be fingerprinted.

·  Allen Lock & Key, 1218 W. Meighan Blvd. Gadsden, AL is the local fingerprinting provider. Please call ahead if possible at (256) 547-8100.

·  Registration

Alabama applicants MUST register online or by telephone at 866-989-9316 prior to arriving at a fingerprint location.

1. Online Registration – https://www.cogentid.com/al/index_adeNew.htm or www.cogentid.com/alabama . ALL applicants are encouraged to register online.

2. Information incorrectly entered during registration and submitted during fingerprinting CANNOT be corrected and is the responsibility of the applicants. Changes to incorrect registration data MAY be corrected online or by telephone at 866-989-9316 prior to fingerprint submission.

·  Payment

1. Fingerprint Fee is $49.65

2. Applicants may pay online during registration using a debit or credit card.

3. No cash, credit card or business checks are accepted at the fingerprint locations.

4. Applicants may pay at the fingerprint site with money order or cashier’s check.

a. Payments must be made out to Cogent Systems.

·  Fingerprint Rejections

Fingerprint images captured electronically on a Livescan device may be rejected by the FBI or ABI for a variety of reasons.

1. Rejections due to the applicant’s registration not being completed correctly will require the applicant to register, repay and be re-fingerprinted. TO PREVENT THIS, review your registration information completely BEFORE submitting your fingerprints. This is the applicant’s responsibility.

2. Registration information MAY BE corrected prior to fingerprint submission ONLY, either via online or by telephone.

3. Rejections due to low or poor quality of the fingerprints requires the applicant to be fingerprinted a second time at no cost to the agency or applicant.
