  • Establishment of a school-wide process for planning (FCHS Planning Wheel)
  • Establishment of FCS Learner Profile as the foundation of FCHS instructional mission.
  • Establishment of school-wide standards of effectiveness (FCHS Pantheon of Effectiveness) as they pertain to both instructional & organizational goals.
  • Instructional Effectiveness as measured by Teacher Keys Evaluation System (TKES)
/ Organization Goal: We want FCHS to be a place where parents want to send their children, where students identify with / feel connected to their school, and where teachers are empowered to lead.
Instructional Goal: We want ALL of our students to become productive American citizens who will, to the best of their abilities:

“Pre” Pre-Planning / 2 hours / The administrative team, along with representative from GA DOE, led the FCHS Leadership Cabinet through a CCRPI score interpretation seminar. Additionally, teacher-leaders were introduced to the School Improvement Teams concept being initiated for the 2014-2015 school year.
June 18-19
Summer Off- Campus Workshop / 10 hours / The administrative team led the core academic department chairpersons through a day & half workshop on developing common definitions for effective leading & teaching, on leading using the FCHS Planning Wheel process, on how to conduct non-evaluative peer observations, and on how to best deliver feedback to teachers.
July 31
Pre-Planning / 2.5 hours / Staff development led by the principal centered on establishment of the FCHS Planning Wheel – aligned very closely with the data team process – along with the establishment of the following FCHS “big picture” goals:
  1. Instructional – We want to lead ALL of our students to be productive American citizens who – to the best of their abilities – will: Solve problems; Communicate effectively; and Serve selflessly.
  2. Organizational – We want FCHS to be the place where: Parents want to send their children; Students feel connected to & identify with their school; and Teachers feel empowered to lead.
The second phase of staff development led by the principal centered on establishing school-wide standards of effectiveness via the FCHS Pantheon of Effectiveness, of which the major elements are:
  1. Building positive relationships
  2. Establishing clear expectations
  3. Designing relevant, engaging work
  4. Using ongoing assessment & feedback
  5. Analyzing results
The staff was introduced to the School Improvement Teams concept.
August 4
Pre-Planning / 1.5 hours / Staff development led by the administrative team centered on using 2013-2014 data to determine school, department, and data team goals. The team modeled how to use the Planning Wheel for goal-setting, designing work using the Pantheon as a guide, and how to use results (assess & re-address or move on). Alignment of goals to Learner Profile was a continued point of emphasis.
August 5
Pre-Planning / 1 hour / Data teams analyzed 2013-2014 results through the lens of the Planning Wheel, established preliminary goals, thenshared out with department members who provided feedback.
August 6
Pre-Planning / 1 hour / Staff development led by Student Support Services administrator centered on improving the effectiveness of co-teaching in interrelated environments.
August 27
Early Release / 2 hours / Staff Development led by Admin Team and Department Leaders to establish data team goals, as well as instructional improvement goals (based on TKES self-evaluation).
September 17
Off Campus Workshop / 6 hours / The principal led the Instructional Leadership Team through a day-long workshop on peer coaching, common instructional vocabulary, and providing non-evaluative/judgmental feedback.
September 26
Early Release / 1 hour / Professional learning centered on gradebook training & providing timely feedback.
October 14
Off Campus Workshop / 6 hours / The principal led the non-core academic department leaders through a day-long workshop on peer coaching, common instructional vocabulary, and providing non-evaluative/judgmental feedback.
October 21
Planning Period Meetings / 1 hour / Administrators & teacher-leaders will provide professional learning on: TKES (understanding a “2”), documentation on the TKES platform, and defining “individualized feedback.”
November 11
Planning Period Meetings / 1 hour / Administrators & teacher-leaders will provide professional learning on teacher “choice” based on their TKES self-evaluations and personal instructional goals.
November 18
On-campus Workshop / 1 hour / Guidance Counselors will provide professional learning to department chairs and selected teacher-leaders on effective student-parent-teacher conference facilitation.
Second Semester / TBD / Professional Learning will be connected to teacher effectiveness / ineffectiveness as demonstrated on first semester TKES results.
Total Hours: / 11 hours for all staff; for teacher leaders/department chairs +/- an additional 19 hours
