Action Plan Objectives

There is no maximum or minimum number of objectives, but Task Leads are cautioned against having too many objectives. List objectives in this section.
  1. Establish an approved parent support provider curriculum.
  2. Develop standards of practice for parent to parent support services.
  3. Gain ND DHS approval for certification of parent support providers.

Summary of Action Plan
Please provide a narrative description of your Action Plan, why you have selected these objectives, and how they will address/improve recovery oriented systems and services or meet the goals and objectives for the listed subtask. / NDFFCMH wants to build peer/family support services in North Dakota. To accomplish this a solid foundation of training and standards of practice are needed in which to build services. It is imperative that we have buy in from all stakeholders including policy makers and families with lived experience. We need policy makers to view peer/family support as an integral behavioral health service in North Dakota. This technical assistance will allow us to bring stakeholders together to build this foundation. Currently, North Dakota does not have any certified peer/family support training programs. There are multiplydemands for developing a standardized training including but not limited to the ND Department of Human Services Division of Behavioral Health, legislators (who are considering whether to make services Medicaid reimbursable), providers and family members.
Outreach/Marketing Plan
Describe your outreach and marketing plan. / It will be important that we keep stakeholders including the ND DHS Behavioral Health Division, key legislators, advocacy partners, board members, staff and families in the loop as we move forward. We can do this through email, updates during all policy meetings, educational information to legislative interim committees, updates provided in newsletter, social media, website, conferences and annual meeting. As things become better defined we need to begin meeting with potential funders to discuss reimbursement possibilities.
Ongoing Communication Plan
Describe your team’s plan for maintaining ongoing communication and accountability, including ensuring the ongoing meaningful involvement of peers (e.g., regularly scheduled team meetings, working group meetings, emails, task leads). / We are scheduling weekly team meetings. We intend to keep families involved in the process by convening monthly meetings throughout the state with families and stakeholders. We will provide information on our website, newsletter, and social media.
Plans for Celebrating Success
Describe how your team will celebrate success at key milestones. / We will send announcements and updates to the team and we will start each team meeting by acknowledging the actions of team members. We will share our successes with all other stakeholders as part of our ongoing communication.

Part II: Action Plan
Objective 1 / Establish an approved parent support provider training curriculum by September 9, 2017.
Description of Objective 1 / We want to establish an approved parent support curriculum. The ND DHS Behavioral Health Division is interested in moving forward with Peer Support Certification. The state is currently looking at Medicaid reimbursement as well as private insurance reimbursement. We want to be at the forefront to ensure that we have quality evidence based training so that we have parent support providers who can deliver this evidence based practice. We need to show good outcome for families receiving services.

Please list the resources to be utilized to achieve this objective (e.g., new partnerships, consultants, training curricula, etc.). / The resources that we are currently aware of would be contacts from the National Federation of Families. Frances Purdy and Connie Wells are some of the initial contacts. There are probably others such as FREDLA, and BRSS TACS. There may be states that have something that has already been done that would closely align to our training needs in ND. We would need to reach out to states for example who have an integrated behavioral health training curriculum.

Description of Objective 2 / We are going to develop standards of practice for parent to parent support services, so parent support specialists can provide uniform evidence based services to families across North Dakota.

Objective 3 / Gain ND DHS approval for certification of parent support providers by September 9, 2017.
Description of Objective 3 / ND DHS Behavioral Health Division is interested in moving forward with Peer Support and Family Support Certification, to have a service that is reimbursable from Medicaid and private insurance. The Behavioral Health Director is interested in curriculum and certification that is for behavioral health and not a separate one for addiction and separate one for mental health.
