Topic Sentence: Even though the Holocaust was one of the darkest periods in our collective history, with the loss of 12 million people, Anne Frank emerged as a candle flickering in the darkness.
CD: She and her family spent two years in hiding in what’s become known as the secret annex.
CM: When I think about how Anne and her family suffered, it makes me ponder my own luxuries in life, including the ability to live without fear.
CM: I’m inspired by how she was able to never give up hope, despite the fact that she couldn’t go outside, see nature first-hand, or feel the heat of the sun on her face.
CD: During the two years that she and her family were in hiding in the secret annex, she documented her daily experiences in a plaid diary.
CM: Her diary offered a look into the horrors of the Holocaust just like a candle allows you to penetrate the darkness.
CM: Reading the words of this young girl is inspirational because it’s a look into the past, especially the hardships of life.
CS: It is clear that Anne Frank’s life, through her diary, is a gift to the rest of us; her light will never go out.
Topic Sentence: Although George Lucas is mostly known for the creation of “Star Wars,” an impressive, and award winning film series, his contribution in the area of advanced audio sound systems is also profound.
CD: “Star Wars” is one of the most recognized movies of all time, from the moment it premiered in 1977, when it grossed $400,000,000 in one week.
CM: At the time, the graphics and special effects had never been seen before and they revolutionized the way people viewed and directed movies.
CM: This film sparked people’s imaginations to look at the future differentlyas well as humanizing robots and machines.
CD: When we sit in any movie theatre today and the lights dim, we can thank Mr. Lucas for creating and perfecting his THX system, which improves the quality of audio streaming into our ears through the speakers around us.
CM: I enjoy the movies more because the sound system makes me feel like I’m in the movie.
CM: The power of the sound creates a time portal so that I’m able to travel to a “galaxy far, far away.”
CSIt is clear that without George Lucas’s influence in the entertainment industry, film would not be the same.
Topic Sentence: After Martin Luther King Jr.’s assassination, he left behind a legacy of civil rights activism that will never be forgotten.
CD: At 35 years old he won the prestigious Nobel Peace Prize and at the time was the youngest African-American person to achieve this award.
CM: It was admirable and inspirational for a person of his race to achieve such an important honor.
CM: I am inspired by this achievement because
CD: He was the leader of the Civil Rights Movement and motivated people to non-violently solve the issue of racism in this country.
CM: Choosing to fight racism using non-violent methods was something that most people in this country hadn’t seen.
CM: People took notice because the citizens of this country believed it was time for change and that violence was not the answer anymore.
CS: His dream never died; it lives on today in the hearts and minds of others.
