Listed below are four OLS clients for whom we have delivered work-based learning programs. The programs delivered were in the following areas:
· Sales training
· Equity and Diversity training
· IT training
· Leadership training.
After reading each scenario, which of these programs do you think OLS delivered to align with each organisation’s requirements and key strategies? You’ll find the answers at the bottom of the scenarios.
Scenario 1
nFinity Marketing is working hard to establish itself as a market leader in this fast-paced and competitive industry. It aims to recruit highly skilled and customer-focused people for its sales and marketing positions, but finds that these people do not always have good technical and computer literacy skills.
These are critical requirements for this kind of work, which is becoming increasingly more computer-based as nFinity works towards developing a multi-skilled workforce.
Scenario 2
As one of the city’s largest health care providers, Ruth Barnes’ Health Campus services a range of clients with diverse medical needs.
A recent Health Department audit revealed that many employees are not aware of cultural diversity, equal opportunity and anti-discrimination legislation and regulations that apply to them both as individuals and as providers of services to clients.
Scenario 3
For the past few years, the Rev Shop has steadily been growing into a flourishing and successful business. Things have always been pretty casual there, but over the last twelve months the owner has been trying to increase earnings by introducing a small retail outlet to the business.
Selling spare parts and accessories, the shop has been doing pretty well but it has become clear that some of the mechanics and workshop staff do not have good sales skills – they get nervous and feel uncomfortable trying to “flog stuff” to their customers.
Scenario 4
Orchid Fashion Design is a relatively young company and Samara Pintoni, who owns the business, has been recruiting some talented young designers and experienced fashion workers. Just lately, Samara has been feeling very overworked as she is the only person with any management or supervisory role in the business.
The time has come to select some of her staff to take on a Team Leader role in the business, with a view to a management role down the track if Orchid continues to be successful.
Solutions:
1. nFinity Marketing.
The focus of the work-based learning program for nFinity Marketing was IT skills. OLS developed a learning program catering for a range of proficiency levels and aligned the program with IT and multimedia competencies so that participants received a Statement of Attainment.
2. Ruth Barnes’ Health Campus.
To minimise complaints and maintain harmony in the workplace, it is critical for all employees of Ruth Barnes’ Health Campus to have a clear understanding of equity and diversity issues. Their work-based learning program focused on Equity and Diversity to not only address that need, but also to enable the organisation to meet its own legal and regulatory requirements as a health care provider.
3. Rev Shop.
The staff at the Rev Shop are not used to having a role as a salesperson, so they need to understand that selling is not “flogging stuff”, but helping their customers to get the right products and services that can help maintain and protect their vehicles. Selecting Sales training for their work-based learning program will help achieve the Rev Shop’s goal of having a successful retail outlet supporting the workshop business.
4. Orchid Fashion Design.
The focus of Orchid’s work-based learning program was Leadership training! By selecting individual units from an accredited Leadership/Management qualification, OLS was able to design a work-based learning program to enable the selected employees to develop new skills as Team Leaders.
