Up to 3 Postdoctoral Fellowships starting between 1 August and 30 October 2017 are available at the University of Leeds for engineers and scientists who wish to establish a career in research.
As the programme offers the first step into a research career, candidates should have submitted their PhD thesis and completed their viva (with a Pass or minor corrections) by 30 September 2017.
Candidates who are studying at other universities and those wishing to move to new areas of research are encouraged to apply. Candidates who have been offered or already have a permanent position are considered to have already achieved the aims of the programme and therefore will not be eligible. The Fellowship cannot be held concurrently with any other award. The programme is designed to offer support and be flexible.
Fellowship Details:
·  24 months independent funding
·  Based at the University of Leeds
·  A fellowship grant, the indicative amount being £15,000 to be used to increase the impact of the PhD
·  Training and support offered in developing research and funding application skills
·  Induction and mentoring scheme and career advice readily available
·  Opportunities for overseas conference attendance and fieldwork costs

·  Time to complete key publications resulting from your area of research
·  Research resources or funding to visit other groups/facilitate knowledge transfer
·  Outreach activities

Eligibility:
·  Before commencement in post candidates should have submitted their PhD thesis and completed their viva (with a Pass or minor corrections) between 1 October 2016 and 30 September 2017.
·  Candidates must have been in receipt of EPSRC funding during their PhD (fees and/or maintenance) or tied to a research project grant by having received partial fees and/or maintenance payments from the grant. Working on a piece of equipment funded by an EPSRC grant is not acceptable.
·  Candidates studying at another university are encouraged to apply.
Length of Tenure:
Up to 24 months to start between 1 August 2017 and 30 October 2017. An earlier start date may be possible with prior arrangement.

The University of Leeds.
Value of the Fellowship:
Salaries will be paid on University Grade 6 spinal point 28 (£30,175 p.a.). In addition, a fellowship grant of up to £15,000 is available for each fellowship.

·  Applicants should specify their plans for the use of funds and discuss their application with the Head of School/Institute, where the work is to be carried out, prior to submission (see contact details of participating School/Institutes below). A statement of support from the relevant Head of School/Institute will be required with all applications. Applicants should therefore contact the relevant Head of School/Institute well in advance of the closing date.

Closing date: 7 April 2017. Interviews will be held the first half of June 2017.
There will be a two-stage selection process: applications will first be considered by Faculty Committees and recommendations will then be taken to a Central Selection Committee which will compile the final shortlist and interview candidates before determining which will receive the EPSRC Doctoral Prize Fellowship.
