We are keen to make sure all pharmacies that have upgraded for EPS R2 are ready to receive scripts. It is important that pharmacies are fully trained and prepared if they have upgraded because they appear on the pharmacy list on the GP practice systems. Your pharmacies could potentially receive EPS R2 scripts from any enabled GP practice in the country.

You will be invited to attend a pre go live meeting at your local practice before the go live. Even if you are processing a number of scripts please try and attend as local arrangements can be agreed to make the process better. If you are unable to attend a meeting please let your GEM contact know.

Practices will NOT contact pharmacies before they send them scripts via EPS R2.

Please note: Our Local Guidance states that pharmacies should start to collect nominations from patients no earlier than 8 weeks before their practice goes live. Ensure that you are aware which surgeries in your area are ‘live’ or planning to ‘go live’ and sign up any patients you have at those practices and input the data into the system. This is very important as a lack of nominations may result in ‘go lives’ being delayed.

Electronic Submission of Reimbursement Endorsements

EPS2 will allow dispensers’ to electronically submit endorsement messages to the reimbursement agency for dispensed electronic prescriptions.

Pharmacists don’t have to wait until the end of the month to submit claims. Claims can be made as and when electronically.

Signed Tokens should be returned to the PPD at the month end, they do not need to be sorted.

Business Continuity

In the event of any issues with receiving scripts, pharmacies should:-

  1. Call practices to inform them of the issues and advise them to send FP10 prescriptions for acute prescriptions until the issues are resolved. Repeat prescriptions can be sent by the practices as usual.
  2. Once the issues are resolved contact the practice to update them.
  3. Not dispense from prescription tokens provided by practices.

It is your responsibility to communicate with the practices.

Register to receive text or email alerts for affecting your connection to the Spine, EPS, PDS etc.

You will receive an alert when the system is unavailable and again when normal service is resumed and you will need to inform the practice that they can send acute prescriptions electronically again.
