Job purpose / As YMCA Trinity Group strives to become an exceptional ‘leading edge’ organisation, you will take responsibility in engaging clients and ensuring that they have a holistic and constructive support plan and work through the following three steps of engagement:
Acknowledge – Create an environment that is welcoming, safe and in which Clients are able to engage. Identifying clients presenting and with hidden needs that cause the long term underlying barrier to independent living. Ensure clients feel included within the service, develop rapport and a two way relationship where expectations are clearly explained and accepted.
Plan – In consultation and agreement with clients create innovative, bespoke and outcome driven support sessions that deliver embedded learning in a non-classroom environment in an easily accessible way.
Achieve – Create small user led and defined celebrations of achievement to move clients towards the ultimate aim of engaging within the wider community in a sustainable and stable way.
Main tasks /
  • Ensure that new clients are fully inducted into the service, ensuring that they are aware of opportunities, expectations, rules and requirements
  • Proactively monitor clients, identifying and reporting safeguarding issues where appropriate and in accordance with the safeguarding policy and procedure
  • Liaise with statutory agencies fostering partnerships, promoting welfare and wellbeing of both the individual and the service as a whole
  • Ensure individual risk s are assessed and minimized where appropriate
  • To ensure continuity in key working with other Accommodation Engagement Officer by maintaining up to date notes on the housing database (and where appropriate MY Care First)
  • Prepare detailed support plans, demonstrating clear pathways to independence and achievable SMART (Specific, Measurable, Accurate, Realistic, Timely) targets
  • Present information in formats which are clear, understandable and accessible to the client
To support administration staff in budgeting with residents to enable the collection of rental charges where appropriate and in accordance with the Association’s policies( Not applicable in CYPS Houses)
To visit and check rooms on a regular basis and take any remedial action as necessary
To aid the procedure of eviction including the removal and storage of a residents belongings.
To ensure that all relevant information statistical data and contact with residents is recorded on AMIS / W Drive to ensure a smooth handover to colleagues at the change of a shift.
To support residents in accessing meaningful activities including where appropriate taking fetching and accompanying.
To proactively set up and deliver sessional youth work
to support P4I.
To actively encourage a culture of involvement and inclusion of residents in the work and life of the YMCA, including national and international events as well as cross-County and non-YMCA opportunities
Other Tasks / To be proactive in ensuring that an acceptable living and working environment is maintained at YMCA Trinity Group facilities, upholding good health and safety practices at all times in accordance with the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974 including fire safety.
To oversee and undertake risk assessments as required and as appropriate.
Tooperate within clear professional and confidentiality boundaries while seeking to implement and uphold the rules, policies and procedures and remain compliant with the data protection guidelines
To attend and participate in monthly project / staff team meeting and contribute to the general development of the project, which may not be on your normal working day
Promote the Aims and Purposes of the YMCA, specifically holding in balance the Christian, Charitable and Commercial aspects of the Association’s work
A commitment to work unsocial hours including sleep ins as part of rota.

PERSON SPECIFICATION

Skill / Essential / Desirable / Useful
Youth Work or youth support related qualification / 
Knowledge of the Children’s Act and Leaving Care legislation. / 
Experience of working within the homeless / youth sector and working with vulnerable people / 
Able to recognise the need for action or change, and taking appropriate action on own initiative / 
Ability to use logical processes for problem solving and decision making / 
Good general education to GCSE grade C level or equivalent / 
Take responsibility for organising own work effectively and delivering results / 
Able to develop and maintain positive working relationships, based on self-awareness and openness to making personal change / 

Have sound written, communication, administration and IT skills / 
Lone Working experience able to deal with problematic behaviour including potential violence / 
Able to work under pressure and word extended hours if necessary / 

Able to travel independently to all locations within the Association Countywide which currently includes Ipswich, Bury, Stowmarket with access to a vehicle that could transport YP for business purposes (i.e. take to an interview) / 
Knowledge of Safeguarding and current legislation / 
Have a good knowledge of Health & Safety and risk assessment requirements / 
First Aid &Food Hygiene certificate / 
