*Enhancement of Professional Skills Through Mentorship, Trainings/Workshop

BACKGROUND

The Pilipino-American Social Workers Association (PASWA) evolved from an informal network of social workers of Pilipino descent in the Bay Area. We informally networked, exchanged practice experiences and ideas, and provided professional support to one another.

PASWA, a Council of NASW, has a critical role to play. We can better advocate and serve the needs of our Pilipino clients based on our knowledge of the Pilipino culture and values. Our group plans to continually expand its membership to foster and promote solidarity in order to accomplish our goals and objectives.

OBJECTIVES

*Professional networking.

*Enhancement of professional skills through mentorship, trainings/workshop

*Advocacy for appropriate services to meet the needs of Pilipino clients.

*Collaboration with other professional groups to enhance recognition of our goals.

*Recruitment of new members.

*Development of a databank of community resources that serve Pilipinos.

* List job information exchange.

* Educational support / Scholarship program

*Recruit Pilipino American Social Workers and other interested health workers.

*Expand PASWA membership to the state level..

*Become actively involved in community issues and concerns that affect our clients.

*Participate in training experiences to sharpen our professional skills and enhance personal growth.

*Train members for leadership roles at various levels in order to promote recognition of the value and strength of our cultural diversity and ethnic differences.
