English III Per. 5

January22, 2016

This is a silent study period. Everyone will quietly work on the assignment (no groups allowed). Everyone was warned ahead of time that anyone who comes to class without a Literature Bookand a workbook will receive a detention. Here are a few other things that will get you a detention: falling asleep, not working on the assignment, and excessive talking.

  1. Open your workbook to page 197 and complete the character analysis for J. Alfred Prufrock. For each question, use examples from the poem and write (at least) two complete sentences. Skip the draft it wants you to write at the bottom of the page.
  2. Get out a sheet of paper and head it properly as it will be handed in for homework. Open up your Literature book to page 712 and answer question #1 and #2 in “Critical Thinking” in no less than six sentences for each numbered question.
  3. Go to page 715 and read “Integrated Language: Vocabulary Acquisition and Use” and create vocab flashcard #16 with the Greek Prefix di/dis.
  4. Continuing on the same paper you answered the questions from page 712, do #1-7 exercise “Word Analysis: Greek Prefix di-” on page 715. Write out each sentence and indicate whether or not each sentence is true or false. Students who do not write out each sentence will not receive full credit.
  5. Go to page 716 and read all of “Background: Imagism,” then (on the same paper) write down five of the most important points about Imagism in complete sentences. If there’s not enough room to do this on the same paper, get out a new sheet of paper and staple it to the completed one.
  6. Read “Ezra Pound: Author of ‘A Few Don’ts’ and ‘In a Station of the Metro’” and (on the same paper) write down five of the most important points in complete sentences. Again, if there’s not enough room to do this on the same paper, get out a new sheet of paper and staple it to the completed one.
  7. Turn to page 718 and read “Connecting to the Essential Question” and the “Literary Analysis.” And (on the same paper) add the definitions of the word “Imagism” and “images.”
  8. All work will be collected next class.

Any discipline issues or class disruptions will be brought to my attention and dealt with upon my return.

Thank you,

Mr. Rodriguez
