Course Description
This course is designed for IT professionals who would like to improve their language and cultural abilities required to become successful in the global stage. Rather than focusing on passive language skills such as listening and reading, the main purpose of this course is to provide more opportunities for students to actively use the language, in speaking and writing.
Course Objectives
By the end of the semester, the students will be able to do the followings:
- Start and maintain a conversation in English, even with strangers
- Participate in English business discussions
- Give a 3-minute presentation that is related to his/her major
Course Requirements and Evaluation
Weekly Assignment / 15%-Dictating ONE sentence from a TV show or a video clip of YOUR CHOICE
Total 15 sentences
Role Plays / 20% :
-Pair or Group (no more than 3 people) Assignments (10%*2)
-Write and record a business conversation
Group Discussion / 15% : 1 Randomly chosen topic out of 4 given topics
Presentation / 20%
-Free topic; should be related to your major
Attendance / 10%
-All students should arrive in class on time.
-3 Lates (20 minutes after the class start time) = 1 Absent
-If you miss more than 5 classes, you will automatically get an FA.
Class Participation / 20% : All students should participate actively in class / group discussions & pair works
Class Policies
- All students are expected to be on time, do their best in their assignments, and participate actively in all class activities.
- This is an English only class. Therefore, you should only be speaking in English at all times. However, there are exceptions.
- Copying someone else’s work is NEVER tolerated in this class. You will immediately get a 0 on that assignment when you copy something that is not your own idea.
