English 10 CP: Elements of Literature and Composition

Student Performance Expectations, 2015-2016

Welcome back!

Objective: To be properly prepared to handle a wide range of academic tasks, including: read critically, write formally and informally, analyze literature, complete a variety of types of assessments, do research, hone grammar skills, build vocabulary, & make presentations.

Daily Expectations:

  • Come to class on time. Tardiness will lead to detention. If you are more than 10 minutes late, this counts as an absence. 10 absences = possible loss of credit for the course.
  • Come prepared everyday, with completed homework and course materials.
  • As soon as you arrive, sit down and complete the “Do Now.”

Classroom Behavior:

  • All rules in the Student Handbook apply to this course. Students are expected to demonstrate good character: respect yourself, other students and teachers.

Course Materials:

  • Daily requirements include a three ring binder, loose leaf paper, writing utensils (pencils, blue/black pens, brightly colored pens, highlighters), and student planner.You may need index cards, post-its, etc. Some teachers will require additional materials.
  • All books must be covered.
  • Organizingyour notebook is half the battle. Your teachers will share specific expectations.

Assignments and Grading

  • All work must be completed on time. Late policy details can be found in the Student Handbook.
  • Your work must be complete and ready to hand in when you walk into the classroom. Printing before or during class disrupts the lesson.
  • Each marking period’s grade will be calculated on a points system with a minimum of 225 points per marking period.
  • The work that you submit must be your own. Plagiarism is a direct offense of the school’s Academic Integrity Policy, which will be strictly enforced if necessary.

Absences:

  • Please make sure you are aware of missed assignments. Asking your teacherswhat you missed is your responsibility; do this as soon as possible.

After School Help will beon Tuesday . Teachers will announce their own locations.
