2016 Untenured Faculty DC Trip – April 12-14, 2016
For Engineering Tenure-track faculty. The deadline for returning interest in the trip is this Friday, Nov 13. See email from Noel dated Nov 6, which includes the brief information required. Note that there are only 40 slots available for all university colleges and campuses for the 2016 trip.

· National Science Foundation CAREER Information Session, Monday, November 30, 3-5 PM, Purple Pride Room,K-State Alumni Center
The Office of Research and Sponsored Programs is coordination an information session about the National Science Foundation’s (NSF) Faculty Early Career Development (CAREER) Program. The CAREER is NSF’s most prestigious award in support of junior faculty who exemplify the role of teacher-scholars. This session will start with a brief presentation about this program and the requirements for submission. This will be followed by a panel of previous Kansas State University CAREER awardees who will discuss their experience in submitting to this program and what this award has meant for their career. Both recent and longer-term awardees will be included in the panel which should make for a lively discussion about this important program. Registration for this event is required.
· National 2016 NSF CAREER Proposal Writing Workshop – March 21-22, 2016, St. Louis, MO
This excellent national workshop in March that is organized by K-Staters for NSF. The College of Engineering will provide up to $500 for travel expenses for this event with a match of that amount from your department. Sponsored by the NSF Division of Civil, Mechanical and Manufacturing Innovation, the 2016 NSF CAREER Proposal Writing Workshop will be co-hosted by the Missouri University of Science and Technology and Kansas State University. The workshop will cover the basics of CAREER proposal writing and review. It will include presentations by NSF Program Officers and recent CAREER awardees, as well as a mock panel review. · NSF CAREER Workshop for College of Engineering Untenured Faculty – May 2016
The Engineering Research and Programs office plans to offer a NSF CAREER workshop again this year for those untenured faculty that may be interested in or planning to submit a proposal to this year’s program. We workshop is typically held the week following finals, May 16 - 20, 2016.

· Beyond Bullets and Bombs: Intro to the Department of Defense and Broad Agency Announcements. This session, is a discussion of opportunities to work with the Department of Defense for "scientific study and experimentation directed toward advancing the state-of-the-art or increasing knowledge or understanding.”
· Extension National Science Foundation and Broader Impacts. This session addresses howK-State Research and Extension's and 4-H's well established outreach and informal education programs can help meet the National Science Foundation's (NSF's) broader impact requirements even if the project has nothing to do with agriculture. Also, NSF can fund certain Extension activities under its informal education programs. Presentations by NSF Project Managers and Extension practitioners will explain how these key land-grant university programs can be an asset in NSF submissions.

Call for Proposals - The K-State Distinguished Lecturers
Watch for a “Call for Proposals” to bring visitors to speak at K-State via a highly visible platform. Visiting speakers are expected to be persons with significance in their field of specialties, and may be prominent researchers and scholars or distinguished public officials. The Office of the Provost has provided funding to support awards of up to $6,000 per lecture for the 2016 calendar year. For further information, please contact the Committee chair, Bill Zhang, .
