Rhubarb Farm is an innovative and dynamic social enterprise based in the old mining village of Langwith, Nottinghamshire. We provide volunteering and training opportunities to a wide range of people including those with physical and learning disabilities, mental ill health, ex offenders, recovering alcohol and substance misusers and NEETS ( not in employment, education or training). We grow a wide range of vegetablesand we also have a fruit orchard and chickens. Various courses are run throughout the year including cookery, arts and crafts and vegetable growing. THE RHUBARB FARM CROP SHARE SCHEME
About the scheme
Welcome to The Rhubarb Farm Crop Share Scheme. The scheme is a type of Community-Supported Agriculture(CSA) which is an alternative form of food supply consisting of a group of families and individuals who pledge support to a farming operation where the growers and consumers share both the risks and the benefits of food production. Our CSA consists of vegetable bag production but other schemes may include meat products too.
Key points:
- We provide weekly or fortnightly vegetable bags for our members. These are filled with seasonally available produce grown on our farm.( In leaner winter months we may buy locally sourced vegetables to top up your bags).
- There are two bag sizes available - large or small. The large bag would be ideal for a family of 3 or 4 people and the small bag would be suitable for 1 or 2 people.
- Although we are not registered as organic, our vegetables are grown without the use of chemicals.
- Our vegetables are sown, transplanted, watered, weeded, harvested and packed by an enthusiastic team of volunteers and our dedicated staff.
- Vegetables are ready to collect from 12.30pm up until 4.30pm. Members can also collect on a Friday from 8.30am until 4.30pm.We usually include a list of vegetables, often with cooking tips and recipes.
- We now operate a system where members bring their own bag and select their vegetables from the list provided
- Vegetables are stored in a chiller ready for collection to keep produce fresh.
- We ask that members collect their vegetables from the farm as we do not have a delivery vehicle. We are happy for members to 'join up' with other members and collect bags for others who live nearby if they wish.
- We ask that members pay by standing order every month. The reason for this is it saves our staff time if they don't have to handle cash and the commitment from our customers helps us to plan ahead the amount of crops we need to grow.
How to join the scheme
To join the scheme, simply fill in the 2 forms ( one is about the standing order and the other is your details and your bag size preference ), sign and return them to Rhubarb Farm.
We will then send your standing order form off to the bank to process. Once we receive your completed standing order form, you may pay cash for a vegetable bag while you are waiting for your standing order to go through.
Frequently asked questions
What happens to my bag if I go on holiday?
If you are away, you can arrange for family or friends to collect your bag. Some members donate their bag to volunteers at the farm who would benefit.
What happens if I work full-time and am unable to collect before 4.30pm?
We have an agreement with the local Premier Stores in Langwith that bags may be collected from there up until 9.30pm on a Friday or Saturday 6am until 4pm. Any bags left uncollected at Premier stores after 4pm on Saturday will be re-distributed to their staff or customers. This service must be pre-arranged with Rhubarb Farm staff as the shop only has room for about 3 bags.
What notice do I need to give to cancel my Standing Order?
One month's notice is required to cancel your Standing Order.
