Aims:

  • To support, inspire and nurture young people in the churches of the Enfield Circuit in active discipleship of Jesus Christ within the Methodist tradition. This may include

Developing faith groups – existing or new

Facilitating and leading worship, whether traditional or fresh expression

Pastoral care

Main duties and responsibilities:

  • To enhance the wellbeing and spirituality of children and young people in Enfield. This may include:

Organising specific events in the Circuit

Participation in London District, Connexional or other national events

  • To help the church attract and retain children, young people, young adults and families.
  • To increase the churches’ involvement in the wider community
    To ensure ongoing good relationships with the uniformed groups that are sponsored by or meet in our churches.
  • To recruit, guide, support and transfer essential skills to volunteers in their work with children and young people, and if appointed, to supervise any sessional workers employed in this field.
  • To ensure a high profile for youth work within the individual churches and the Circuit.
  • To be significantly involved in the youth and children’s work of Edmonton church (the largest Church in the Circuit).
  • To assist the circuit in developing its ongoing youth and children’s work strategy which is a key element of our current strategic review. Explore opportunities for community action projects which will include, among others, schools work, mid-week worship, outreach
  • To support and lead on-going youth and children’s work projects:
    such as our Sunday Fundays and Confirmation retreats
  • To develop specific opportunities to engage with the spiritual needs of children and young people within and outside the church.
  • To facilitate the recruitment, training and development of volunteers
  • To work with colleagues to support and care for children, young people and their families.
  • To ensure the high profile for youth work within the Circuit through engagement with the staff team, Circuit meeting etc.
  • To comply at all times with the Safeguarding policy of the church.

Other duties as agreed according to particular expertise and needs of the post.

  • laptop and mobile phone provided on permanent loan to post-holder for duration of employment
  • mileage and other expenses as approved by line manager
  • training budget for post-holder for personal and professional development

Hours:

  • Full time (40 hours per week)
  • The post is for a fixed term of four years from the date of commencement of the contract (subject to the satisfactory completion of 6 month probationary period)
  • Flexible working hours will be necessary to meet the requirements of the post.Pattern of work is likely to vary and to be by arrangement, but it will involve weekend work and work during school holidays.
  • 25 working days holiday + statutory holidays per annum.
  • No overtime is payable but time off in lieu will be available by agreement.

Salary:

  • Salary range £22-26 + Outer London Weighting (£1,959)per annum
  • Matching pension contributions, up to 6%, will be paid.
