ENDORSEMENT INFORMATION FOR FOUR YEAR PLANS

Students in high school must select an Endorsement for graduation. An ENDORSEMENT is similar to choosing a CAREER PATH or MAJOR for college. Endorsements require taking a coherent sequence of courses with an emphasis in one or more areas.

A student should graduate with one or more of the following endorsements:

STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) is designed for students who are interested in science, technology, engineering, or math as a major focus of study. Math, science, and/or technology skills and interests must be strong.

It can be obtained by completing

  1. a CTE coherent sequence of 4 credits in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering or Math) cluster;
  2. a coherent sequence of 4 credits in Computer Science;
  3. a coherent sequence of 5 math credits (2 must have Algebra 2 as a pre-requisite); or
  4. a coherent sequence of 5 credits in science.

Business and Industry is designed for students interested in various areas of business.

It can be obtained by completing

  1. a CTE coherent sequence of 4 credits in the following areas: Agriculture Sciences, Architecture & Construction, Arts and A.V. Technology, Business Management & Administration, Finance, Hospitality & Tourism, Information Technology, Manufacturing, Marketing, or Transportation;
  2. four English elective credits that include at least 3 levels in Advanced Newspaper, Advanced Yearbook, Public Speaking or Debate;
  3. four Technology Application electives; or
  4. a coherent sequence of 4 credits from any of the above.

Public Service includes any profession that is service oriented such as education, law, medicine and other health related areas.

It can be obtained by completing

  1. a CTE coherent sequence for 4 credits in Education & Training, Health Science, Human Services, or Law, Public Safety & Security; or
  2. Four credits in JROTC.

Arts and Humanitiesis designed for students who have a strong interest in band, orchestra, choir, theater, art, or languages.

It can be obtained by completing

  1. five Social Studies or Economics credits;
  2. four levels of French, German, Latin, or Spanish;
  3. two levels each of 2 different foreign languages;
  4. a coherent sequence of 4 credits in 1 or 2 categories of fine arts; or
  5. four English elective credits from certain English electives

Multi-Disciplinary designed for students who would like to experience classes in several different areas rather than focus on one area of study.

It can be obtained through completion of

  1. four years each of the four core foundation areas including English 4 and Chemistry and/or Physics;
  2. four advanced courses that prepare you to enter the workforce or higher education; or
  3. four credits in AP, IB or DC classes in English, Math, Science, Social Studies, Economics, LOTE, or Fine Arts
