Pierre, S.D. – Pierre Swim Team had a great weekend at the 2017 SD Long Course State A Championship, held July 28-30 in Aberdeen. 456 of South Dakota’s top athletes competed for state championship titles during this three day meet.

Emmy Loe, Kyleigh Molseed, Paige Spomer, and Isabelle Weller represented PST in the girls 9-10 division. Emmy brought home two top 16 swims in the 50 and 100 meter breaststroke and Kyleigh also placed in the top 16 in the 50 meter butterfly. Paige swam a personal best time in the 100 meter butterfly, placing ninth with her time of 1:56.30L. Isabelle had two personal best times with a second place finish in the 50 meter butterfly.

Jazzlyn Rombough, Kendra Rounds, and Michelle Weiss competed in the girls 11-12 division. Jazzlyn had two personal best swims in the 200 and 400 meter freestyle. Kendra placed in the top twelve for all her swims, which were all personal best times. Michelle swam five personal best times and four AA times, bringing home the eighth place high points medal.

Ella Ward-Zeller had a first place finish in the 100 meter backstroke, swimming a personal best AAA time at 1:10.61. Ella also placed second in the 200 meter backstroke, with her time of 2:33.47. Both times qualify her for the Speedo Sectionals swim meet in March, 2018.

Annabelle Simpson swam four events, all were personal best swims with her top finish of fifth place in the 100 meter breaststroke with a time of 1:27.52L.

For the boys, Jonas Olson swam the 8 and under 100 meter backstroke, placing 10th with his time of 2:11.76L. Lathan Rounds placed fifteenth in the 100 meter freestyle with his time of 1:59.71L.

Colton Cass had two great swims in the boys 9-10 100 and 200 meter freestyle, while Seth Shoup’s 50 meter backstroke and breaststroke were both personal best times. Charlie Simpson brought home the fifth place high points trophy in the boys 9-10 division. Charlie’s top finish was in the 50 meter freestyle with a time of 36.16L. Mason Ward-Zeller was the boys 9-10 fourth place high points winner with two personal best times and had two second place finishes.

Mason Dell was the boys 11-12 eighth place medalist, swimming seven personal best times and two A times. His best swim was in the 50 meter breaststroke with a time of 40.85L and a third place finish. Spencer Skjonsberg was the boys 11-12 fifth high points finisher. His top finishes were in the 50 and 100 meter freestyle.

In the boys 13-14, Aidan Burke had a great weekend swimming five out of five personal best times. His best swim was in the 100 meter butterfly, placing fifth in that event with a time of 1:15.92L.

Caleb Huizenga, Nick Loe and Nathan Shoup competed in the boys 15-16 division. Caleb swam a AA in the 50 meter freestyle with a time of 26.35. Nick had a personal best swim in the 100 meter breast, finishing in second place with his AA time of 1:13.44L. Nathan swam six personal bests, his top finish in the 100 meter breaststroke with a time of 1:23.10L.

Jordan Lutmer brought home a fourth place finish in the boys 17-19 100 meter breaststroke.

Ella and Mason Ward-Zeller will be competing this coming weekend as part of team South Dakota at the 2017 Midwestern Zones Championship.
