  1. Summary of Typhoon MATSA

At 6:15 on August 5, 2005, the center of Typhoon MATSA, with 250 km radius, was located at 180 kilometers northeast east from Taipei City, moving northwest north at a speed of 14 kilometers per hour. The warning land areas include Yilang, Keelung, Taipei, Taoyuan, and Hsichu about the strong gust and heavy rainfall. The warning sea area includes northern, northeast, and southeast part of Taiwan. All the fishing operation in Taiwan Strait and Bashi Strait should take serious precautions.

(1) Activation of Emergency Response Centers in Counties / Cities

  1. First Degree: Keelung City Taipei City, Taipei County, Yilang County, Taoyuan County, Hsinchu County, Keelung harbor, Hualian harbor, Taichung harbor.
  2. Second Degree: Hsichu City
  3. Third Degree: Mioli County, Taichung County, Hualian County, Chiayi City, Nanto County.

(2) Electricity Supply

By 07:00 am, August 5, 11,373 households of Taiwan Power had ever been under outage in total. 1,258 households had been restored, but 10,115 households are still in the blackout.

(3) Tap Water Supply

By 07:00 am, August 5, 102,000 households had ever suffered the suspended supply.

1. Air Transportation

  1. Flights number 561 (Taipei-Kaohsiung) and 006 (Hualian-Taipei) of Fu-Xing Airline have been cancelled.
  2. Flights number 803 (Taipei-Kaohsiung) of Li-Rong of Airline have been cancelled.

2. Sea Transportation and railway

Sea transportations and railway have been operating normally.

4. Tourism

  2. Route 3 in Qi-Du, Shu-Lin, and Long-Tan stop charging passing fee in 5, August.

(10) Suspension of Work and Classes

  1. Work and classes in the following cities/counties will be suspended on 8/5: Keelung city, Taipei city, Taipei county, Taoyuan county, Hsinchu county, Yilan county, Hsinchu city.
  2. Classes in the following cities/counties will be suspended on 8/5: Miaoli county.

  2. The Gui-Shan Bridge was closed because the river stage of Hou-Rong Creek reached the warning level.
