Email to Crossfit Head Quarters – Affiliates Questions Email:

From Steven Dion:

I hope all is well. I am writing to inquire about high schools and colleges as well as other non-profits being affiliates or being able to use the CF name for academic programs, classes etc.

I am an owner of a CF box but I also teach at Salem State University. I am going to be doing a presentation at our national convention in Missouri in April and it's on "bringing CrossFit to Physical Education", and I am trying to get as much info as I can about the process of affiliation and the legal issues related to using the name CrossFit within the schools etc.

If you can provide info that would be greatly appreciated.

Take care and I look forward to speaking with you.

Steve

Hi Steven,
We encourage and welcome University CrossFit clubs. To qualify for a university affiliation, you must be on a school campus and operating as a non-profit organization.

You are only allowed to train students and staff affiliated with the university.

We will waive the affiliation fee if all of these requirements are met.

We require that you carry insurance naming CrossFit, Inc. as an additional insured.

Personal Trainer insurance (with CrossFit, Inc. as additional insured) would suffice.

The first step towards CrossFit affiliation is to register and attend the CrossFit Level 1 course. Please look in the right-hand column on find our current course offerings. As of April 1, 2010, we require affiliation applicants to take and pass the Level 1 test administered at the Level 1 course.

Once you have completed the CrossFit Level 1 course and passed the course test, youare eligible to apply for affiliation with CrossFit.

You must first register with CrossFit Kids if you plan on offering CrossFit Kids classes. Please contact Debbie Rakos at or additional information.

Our Affiliate program is explained in detail here: The affiliation form can be found at the bottom of the affiliate program page.

FAQs regarding Affiliation can be found here:

Issue 35 of the CrossFit Journal can be found here: This issue has some great tips on what it means to be a successful CrossFit affiliate.

Also, Coach Glassman's open letter to trainers, Virtuosity in the Fundamentals, speaks nicely about how and why we train the way we do. His letter can be found here:

Please let me know if you have any other questions.

Best,

Keri
