AHOUSE RESOLUTION

TO RECOGNIZE AND HONOR JENNIFER M. BETLEY OF THE MYRTLE BEACH FIRE DEPARTMENT FOR HER OUTSTANDING WORK AS A CERTIFIED FIREFIGHTER AND TO CONGRATULATE HERON BEING NAMED THE 2013 CHICORA ROTARY CLUB FIREFIGHTER OF THE YEAR.

Whereas, the South Carolina House of Representatives is pleased to learn that Jennifer M. Betley of the Myrtle Beach Fire Department has been selected as the 2013 Chicora Rotary Club Firefighter of the Year; and

Whereas, in her nearly five years with the Myrtle Beach Fire Department, Michigan native Jen Betley has distinguished herself as an outstanding firefighter and member of the community. Known for her exceptional knowledge, skill, and physical fitnesswhen she joined the department, she became its first female applicantto pass the Candidate Physical Ability Test (CPAT)she goes out of her way to make herself available whenever and wherever she is needed. She is also a superior team player who inspires loyalty and cooperation in others; and

Whereas, her tact, warmth, integrity, and selfcontrol, even under the most trying circumstances, have earned her the respect of her peers, and she further commands their confidence through her creative overcoming of obstacles and her desire to progress in her skills; and

Whereas, believing strongly in active involvement in her community, Ms. Betley attends St. Andrew’s Catholic Church in Myrtle Beach and has volunteered as an assistant basketball coach at Ocean Bays Middle School. Further, she has volunteered with the Shop With a Cop program at Christmastime. On days off from the fire department, she works as a substitute teacher for Horry County Schools; and

Whereas, a member of Cross Fit North Myrtle Beach, sheserved as a physicalfitness instructor during the Myrtle Beach Fire Department’s recruit training program and volunteered to serve as a mentor with the department’s new Explorer program for high school students; and

Whereas, she has not gone unappreciated. Firefighter Betley was honored with a Life Saving Award by the Myrtle Beach Fire Department for her actions in resuscitating a cardiacarrest patient; and

Whereas, in preparation for her varied endeavors, Jen Betley earned a bachelor’s degree at Central Michigan University; and

Whereas, even in the most stressful situations, she maintains her trademark calm, confident demeanor and inspires those privileged to serve alongside her. This outstanding Myrtle Beach firefighter known for her determination and unparalleled professionalism sets a fine example for all South Carolinians; and

Whereas, the House of Representatives wishes to express its gratitude to Jen Betley for her dedicated service in protecting the citizens of Horry County and the State of South Carolina, and the members heartily congratulate her on receiving this welldeserved Firefighter of the Year award. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:

That the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives, by this resolution, recognize and honor Jennifer M. Betley of the Myrtle Beach Fire Department for her outstanding work as a certified firefighter and congratulate her on being named the 2013 Chicora Rotary Club Firefighter of the Year.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be provided to Jennifer M. Betley.
