Ellis J. Juan. Since March 2008, Ellis J. Juan has taken responsibilities as Country Representative for the Inter-American Bank in Mexico. He is responsible for the overall Bank’s operations (i.e., public, private and sub-national sectors) and new business developments in Mexico. The Bank has an outstanding portfolio of US$ 6 billion in Mexico and a lending program of US$ 2.5 billion per year for the 2008-2010 period.

Between April 2004 and March 2008, Mr. Juan was a Sector Manager in the Finance, Economics and Urban Department in the World Bank (FEU) where he was responsible for the Infrastructure Finance Group. The Infrastructure Finance Group is responsible for developing new risk mitigation products, managing the Bank’s Guarantee Program (partial risk and partial credit guarantees), and advising governments on project finance and public private partnerships.

Previously (2001-2004), Ellis was the Head of the Capital Markets Group, Private Sector Department at the Inter-American Development Bank.The Group provides partial credit guarantees to support private issuers in local capital markets in the region. Prior to joining the IDB (1997-2001), Ellis was the Head of Investment Banking at Banco Santander Central Hispano Investments,BSCH, New York. He was responsible for the development and management of the project finance and acquisition finance practice, as well as the mergers and acquisitions practice in the Latin American region.

Ellis J. Juan, a Venezuelan national and USA resident, has extensive management operating experience in Latin America, having worked in Venezuela’s private sector in both the industrial and the financial sector for almost 20 years. During the period 1989-91, he served as Deputy Minister for Privatization (Fondo de Inversiones de Venezuela, FIV) during President Perez’s Economic Reform Program and successfully privatized several key state-owned enterprises. He is agraduate of Columbia University, New York (MBA) and holds an economics degree from Universidad Catolica Andres Bello, Caracas, Venezuela.
