HISTORY:

The Micki Rainey Scholarship Fund was established by family and friends in memory of Micki Rainey, wife of Contra Costa County’s 20th Sheriff, Richard K. Rainey. Micki, who passed away in 1986, was always actively involved in Office of the Sheriff functions and extremely supportive of Office personnel. Over the years, she expressed interest and concern in the welfare of employees of the Sheriff’s Office and their families. The scholarship is intended to encourage young people to seek higher education.

Applications are screened and ranked by an outside independent rater. The Board of Directors establishes the value of the award and votes on the awarding of scholarships. (The primary fund raiser for the Scholarship Fund is proceeds derived from the Sheriff’s Annual Charity Golf Tournament. Please note in your statement if a family member has participated, volunteered, or supported this event.)
