Elementary Battle of the Books

October 25, 2012

Dear Parents,

We are so excited to announce that your student has made the first cut for the 2012-13 EBOB team. It is going to be very difficult to cut this group down to the 12 member team that is allowed to compete at the district competition in March. We had 46 students interested in participating in the team.

After the first quiz was administered last Friday, we were able to select the top 15 students. This is a great group of students and it is going to be very difficult to select the best 12. With that in mind, please encourage your student to read, read, and read. Attendance is also a critical criterion. Other criteria will be AR scores, MyBobTeam scores, Teacher recommendation, and EBOB coaches’ evaluations.

Our meetings will be each Thursday at 2:15 – 3:15 in the Media Center. Today was our first meeting. Please be prompt in picking up your student at the back of the Media Center parking lot at 3:15 (this is the bus parking lot located at the back of the school).

There are 17 books on the list and it is the student’s responsibility to read each of these books before Nov. 29, 2012. On Dec. 6, 2012 we will look at attendance, scores from AR, scores from MyBobTeam, and number and times books have been read. The final 12 will be announced on Dec. 6th in the afternoon meeting. We will begin practicing two days a week after the first of the year. The days will be Mondays and Thursdays. In February, we will be meeting three days a week, Mondays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays.

Once the team has been selected, you will receive another letter with more detail about our meetings, snacks and drinks, and schedules.

Thank you for your support. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact us.

Best wishes to your student,

Mrs. Lerch, Technology Teacher

Mrs. Melvin, Media Specialist

Miss Swartz, Third Grade Teacher
