Element Find Project
Due Date: Monday, April 26, 2010 (B-day classes)
Tuesday, April 27, 2010 (A-day classes)
1. The objective of this project is for you to search your home and identify 10 everyday items in which an element is present. Each item can only be used for a single element and 10 different elements must be found.
2. Create a booklet of these items by attaching the item and/or product label listing the element onto a piece of construction paper or other heavy paper (one page per element). *Be sure the element is actually present in the product (i.e., not “0%”)!
3. Beneath each element-containing item, clearly show the following information: element name and symbol, atomic number, atomic mass and molar mass. **Use units as needed/appropriate. Also indicate whether each element is present in its elemental form or is present as part of a compound.
4. DO NOT SUBMIT ANY VALUABLE ITEMS AS PART OF YOUR PROJECT. If necessary, a small number of items (maximum of two) may be represented by pictures that obviously depict the element.
5. This project is a test grade—make sure you take advantage of this important opportunity! (**100 pts total)
- 1.5 pts per each of 6 required pieces of information about each of 10 elements (90 pts)
- 10 pts for creativity and neatness
