Electric Maxi Scooter with Freeway Speeds, Zero Emissions Debuts in San Francisco

Public invited to test ride Parker-powered hybrid vehicle

Rohnert Park, CA, August 6, 2007– Parker’s Electromechanical Automation Division, a leading supplier of motion control technology, is proud to be a major technology supplier of the world’s first patented fuel cell/electric hybrid scooter, the new Vectrix Zero-Emission Vehicle (ZEV), which will debut on the West Coast on August 9.

As part of this debut, the public is invited to be among the first in the U.S. to test ride the revolution in personal transportation. Hosted by Vectrix and British Motor Car Distributors (BMC), this event will take place in San Francisco and will feature special remarks from alternative-fuel consultant Chelsea Sexton and Plug In America co-founder Marc Geller.

While outwardly similar to a gas scooter/motorcycle, the Vectrix scooter is completely different in almost every respect. The design is focused on achieving extended range and high performance through weight reduction, digital circuitry, reduced aerodynamic drag and reduced friction. The Vectrix scooter uses relatively few parts (250 vs. 2,500 for a gas scooter), resulting in reduced assembly costs and minimal maintenance. Targeted primarily at white-collar executive commuters, private fleets and municipalities, the hybrid scooter combines the best of fuel cell and electric features: clean and quiet performance, low emissions, extended range and reduced operating costs.

Parker components in the ZEV include the DC motor controller, scooter control module and boost converter; brushless DC motor; cathode air compressor for direct methanol fuel cell (DMFC) system; fuel cell stack seals, bipolar plates, endplates, etc., for DMFC system; miniature control and proportional valves; and much more.

Don’t miss this very special opportunity to test ride Vectrix, the first state-of- the-art, zero-emission, high-performance, all-electric, two-wheel vehicle.*

  • Powerful and fast with a top speed of 62 mph.**
  • Superior handling thanks to a low center of gravity, stiff frame and even distribution.
  • Range of 40-60 miles on a single charge, thanks to our unique regenerative-braking technology.†
  • Environmentally friendly with zero emissions, no need for oil or gas, and virtually silent operation.
  • Cost-efficient at less than 2¢ per mile to operate. The onboard batteries have an estimated lifespan of 10 years (based on 5,000 miles per year operation).

*Riders must show a Class M motorcycle driver’s license to test ride alone. Others will be given test rides with a licensed Vectrix rider.

**Range may vary based on riding conditions.
