ELAINE HUCKABEE LUCAS
BIO
> Elaine Huckabee Lucas is a lifelong resident of Macon. Her parents are Ella Huckabee and the late Leonard Huckabee, Jr. She has been married to State Representative David E. Lucas, Sr. for thirty-six years and the couple has four children (one deceased),nine grandchildren, and one great-grandchild.

> Elaine graduated from Miller Senior High School and completed her Associate's work in English at Macon Junior College. She received the BS degree, magna cum laude, from Savannah State College in Elementary Education. Her Master's degree was earned in Education from Fort Valley State University and she holds the Education Specialist degree in Education from Georgia College and State University. She has the counseling certification from Fort Valley State University. Elaine is certified in early childhood education, middle grades, data collection, and counseling.

> Elaine taught elementary school for eighteen years, worked as an elementary
and high school counselor for twelve years, and coordinated counseling and advisement for the Bibb County Teen Parent Center for five years. Retiring after 30 years of service to children, she worked part-time for the Bibb School District at Hutchings Career Center as a counselor, graduation specialist, and community service coordinator for an additional 8 years.

> Elaine has given service to various charitable organizations in the community including the Food Bank, the Red Cross, the Mentor's Project, the Youth Development Center Board, Mercer Medical School Advisory Board, and the Douglass Theatre. First elected to the Macon City Council in 1983, she previously chaired the Community Resources and Development Committee and is now a member of the Appropriations Committee, Employee Development and Compensation Committee (Vice Chair), Macon-Bibb Board of Health (Health education chair) and chairs the Martin Luther King Commission. Further, she previously served on The Fort Hawkins Commission, The Cherry Blossom Commission, The Macon Cemetery Preservation Board, and the Recreation Planning Committee. Elaine is a former assistant treasurer and now serves as vice-president of the Georgia Association of Black Elected Officials and serves as an honorary member of the ARC.

> Elaine Lucas is a founding member and first president of the Bibb County Voters Registration and Education League, is a member of the NAACP, SCLC, Women's Political Organization, Democratic Women of Bibb County, Bibb Retired Educators Association, and was a delegate for Rev. Jesse Jackson at the 1984 Democratic Convention held in San Francisco, California. She is a district representative on the Bibb County Democratic Executive Committee. She authored the ordinance creating the Martin Luther King, Jr. Commission and presently serves as chair of that group. She also authored the legislation which placed two citizen representatives on the Transit Authority and the bill which created the Historic Linwood Group, now called The Macon Cemetery Preservation Committee.

> Elaine is a 30-year member of Steward Chapel AME Church where she has served as a Trustee, a member of the Usher Board, and chairs the Social and Political Action Committee. She is a 29-year, Golden Life member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc.
Elaine is very proud to be a 40-year blood donor and an organ donor. She opened E L High School Home Study Academy in January of 2011, where high school dropouts can reenter school to earn their high school diploma. She is also the owner of E Lucas Consulting, an education and political consulting firm and Lenny’s Handy Services. Her motto is “Faith without works is dead.”
