This site will be updated weekly. You can also join Remind 101. The Remind 101 will be texted out when there is a change of schedule or an important event coming up. I will not send out daily homework reminders. Homework for each class will be written on the board. All students need to write this down each day.
Every Friday from now until the first Friday of February will be "special" dress days. The children can wear football jerseys for $1.00. If students are wearing jerseys, they must bring $1.00 to school. If your child chooses not to participate, he/she can wear the regular Friday clothes - HCC t-shirt/sweatshirt and jeans or their uniform.
Reading - This week, we will we will continue reading non-fiction text. We will use our social studies book. We are beginning with The Civil War and working through The Civil Rights' Movement. Our focus skills will be identifying text features and text structures in non-fiction text. We will be working through chapter 18 this week discussing WWI and WWII. We will also begin discussing the Holocaust.
Thank you all so much for returning addresses and envelopes. We will write letters this week and mail them. Please let your contact know the letters are coming. The children always learn so much from their family and friends when we read the letters that are sent back to us.
On Tuesday, January 24th, your child will be given new vocabulary workshop words. We will have a "synonym/antonym" worksheet on Thursday, January 26th and a "fill-in-the-blank" assignment on Tuesday, January 31st. We will have a G2 test on these words on Friday, February 3rd.
***We are working on MOBY MAX. We will continue to do this. We are working on reading and English skills using Moby Max. This is a Web Based program that can also be utilized at home. Please encourage your child to practice with Moby Max at home.
On Tuesday, January 10th, your child was given his/her new AR goal. Information on this went home with each child. Please make sure your child is reading. AR grades will be recorded on Wednesday, March 10th. Your child is given time each day to read, but he/she must also read at home.
This week, your child was given his/her literature circle book. We will meet every Tuesday. Your child is responsible for the literature circle reading and completing his/her role sheet at home. Every Tuesday, he/she must come prepared having read whatever was assigned for the week and with his/her completed role sheet and book. This is a weekly G1 grade.
English - We will continue working on chapter 12. We will learn about direct and pattern 2 sentences. We will also study irregular verb and the tenses of verbs to include simple, perfect, and progressive perfect, past and future. We will have a quiz on Friday, January 27th and a G2 test on Monday, January 30th.
Spelling - Our words this week are: salsa, mattress, tycoon, burrito, bandana, tomato, poncho, dungarees, lasso, patio, siesta, cargo, vanilla, tsunami, iguana, plaza, caravan, hammock, pajamas, gallant, mosquito, cathedral, alligator, tambourine, and sombrero. Our spelling assignments this week will be Monday - 3x each, Tuesday - spelling worksheet, Wednesday - 10 sentences and study for spelling test. We will have our regular spelling test on Friday due to the science fair on Thursday. We will NOT have a dictation test this week.
