ELA Unit 2 Biography Project

Due Date ______

You are going to learn about a famous person and then do a project. First, you will choose a famous person to study. (See options attached). You will then read at least 3 biographies about that person’s life. Finally, you will use those sources (biographies) to complete a project. You will have a choice among 4 projects. The project you choose is up to you!

Written Biography and Bottle Doll

If you choose to make a bottle doll, you will need to make sure you have 15 fact cards and 1 bibliography card with 3 different sources cited MLA style to go along with it. To create the bottle doll of your famous person, use a 2 liter bottle for the body (fill it part way with sand or stones to keep it from tipping over), a foam ball for the head, and/or other art/craft supplies for decoration.

Written Biography in a Can

If you choose to make a biography in a can, you will need to make sure you have 15 fact cards and 1 bibliography card with 3 different sources cited MLA style to go along with it. To create the biography in a can, use a large vegetable can (make sure the edges are cut clean so you don’t cut yourself), a foam ball for the head, and/or other art/craft supplies for decoration.

Biography Quilt Squares

If you choose to make the biography quilt squares, you WILL NOT need to have the 15 fact cards or the bibliography card. Your quilt square project will have all of that information on it, so there is no need to write anything else. I suggest you use some type of pre-write to organize your information before creating the quilt squares. Double check grammar/spelling before writing on the squares! Be neat!

Biography Poster

If you choose to make the poster, you WILL NOT need to have the 15 fact cards or the bibliography card. Your poster will have all of that information on it, so there is no need to write anything else. I suggest you use some type of pre-write to organize your information before creating the poster.

Poster should have:

1. Your famous person’s name in big, bold lettering somewhere on the poster.

2. Explain in at least 4 complete sentences why your person is important. What did they do?

4. Create a timeline that begins at the person’s birth (list the date and location) and ends with his/her death (list the date and location). The timeline should include at least 3 important life events with dates from that person’s life. Make you write each event in detail and give the corresponding date. (all of this should be in chronological order)

5. Make sure you list the bibliography information with the 3 sources you used cited in MLA style.

6. Be creative! Add in any other pictures, drawings, or designs to make your poster visually appealing.

7. Double check grammar/spelling before writing on the poster! Be neat!
