EL MANDRIL

BIOGRAPHY

From Tijuana street seller, to janitor, to radio host, Ricardo Sanchez never imagined he would someday have the #1 radio show in Los Angeles.

“El Mandril,” as he was christened for his ability to make audiences laugh with his stories, was born in Veracruz, Mexico and part of a noble but poor family.

His first job at a radio station was as a janitor. One day, he volunteered to record a commercial for the station’s missing on-air talent. Once he discovered his ability to entertain in front of a microphone, his career began to flourish. He caught the ear of top executives and was recruited to come to Los Angeles where his popularity grew to new heights. He quickly established a large and loyal audience. His ability to make connections with people while staying true to his humble ways allowed him to rise. In 2013, he surpassed all legendary English-language radio stations becoming the #1 on-air personality in Los Angeles(Nielsen Audio, JUN’13-NOV’13, PPM, KLAX-FM, MF 6a-10a, AQH Rank, P 12+).

In 2014, Premiere Networks began providing domestic distribution and ad sales support for El Show del Mandril.Broadcasting weekday mornings from 5 to 10 a.m., the program currently airs on nearly 40 stations across the U.S., and continues to originate from Radio Centro 93.9/KXOS in Los Angeles, where it debuted in January 2014 and nearly tripled the ratings in one week (Source: Nielsen Audio, PPM, Wk of 1/13 vs. Wk of 1/20, KXOS-FM, MF 6A10A, AQH, P 12+).

Each day on the program, El Mandril and his quirky on-air co-hosts El Comburindio, La Toluca and Burbujas entertain audiences with their fun and energetic discussion on the news of the day, hilarious skits, listener interaction, celebrity and artist appearances, and much more.Popular features include: Elios – positive aspirations to start the day; La Parodia – a comedic re-enactment of the day’s top topics; Tatiano – a unique impersonation that defends a woman’s point of view; Don Leon – a grandpa figure providing tried and true advice to listeners; Los Dramaturgos – a chance to stump Toluca and Comburindio; and Immigration Advice – answers to questions from one of Los Angeles’ most re-known immigration lawyers.

Today, Sanchez remains humble and is committed to serving and entertaining an audience with the love and support of his family. He is also highly dedicated to his non-profit organization, The Mandril Foundation, which feeds over 80 families each week.
