EighthSunday in Ordinary Time

Isaiah 49:14-151 Cor 4:1-5Mt 6:24-34

“Zion said, ‘The Lord has forsaken me; my Lord has forgotten me.’ Can a mother forget her infant, be without tenderness for the child of her womb? Even should she forget, I will never forget you.”… “Your heavenly Father knows all that you need. Seek first his kingship over you, his way of holiness, and all these things will be given you besides.”

Theology on Tap-NYC (a young adult apostolate for those in their 20s, 30s, and 40s) presents “Faith and the Professional Life” on February 28, 2011.
Amy Uelmen, Director of the Institute on Religion at Fordham Law School, will kick things off for us tonight as we begin the 2011 year! Amy will talk to us about balance the two lives that we lead every day: the life of a Catholic and the life of a worker. How does one still be a Catholic while dealing with the struggles of work, etc..?
TNYC is located at Klub 45 Room-Connolly’s Bar, 121 West 45th Street, between 6th and 7th Avenues. Event begins at 7pm and ends around 9pm.

When one considers an all knowing God, it often causes sensations of guilt or fear. The God who knows me, looks at what I have done wrong and judges me accordingly. God’s word today certainly does not portray that kind of God, but reveals a loving, tender, concerned parent, preoccupied with my well being.

The image of a loving mother in Isaiah and the creator God of birds, flowers and fine clothing, reveals a God who cares for us with a deep abiding love. My only worry is to be sure that I respond faithfully to God’s gift of care and love. Did not Peter write ‘Cast your cares upon the Lord for He cares for you?’

Gearing up for Lent?
Visit the USCCB’s website to find helpful spiritual resources for this Lenten season. Daily meditations, videos and audio reflections, charity projects and much more! Make this Lent a truly transformative time for you and your relationship with God.

Aware of God’s love for me, I now set out seeking His kingdom, sometimes referred to as grace, so that His way of holiness may fill me. The caring God wishes to assure me of His presence and the gift of His grace.

If we are going to worry, make sure it is about worthwhile things, so that we may receive the praise of God.

Guidelines for Lenten Fast & Abstinence
During the season of Lent, the Church urges all the Faithful to reflect a spirit of penance in their daily life through performing acts of fast and abstinence.
FASTING-requires that only one full meal be taken per day. Two smaller meals may be taken during the day to maintain physical strength, but those two meals together should not equal a full meal. Fasting is required for all those from ages 18-59. Those not required to fast are encouraged to join in the discipline to the extent they are able.
ABSTINENCE-requires that we abstain from eating meat on a particular day. Abstinence is required from the age of 14 onwards.
Ash Wednesday (March 9th ) and Good Friday (April 22nd ) are days of fast and abstinence. All Fridays in Lent are days of abstinence.
The collection for February20th was$6,333.
Please be generous with your weekly contribution to our parish ministries.
We encourage you to enroll via the ParishPay website Select the St JosephWestVillage link. Use the paperless way to help our ministry.

The Con Edison costs for Jan-Feb 2011 are $ 12,341.15

St. Francis Adult Education Center-139 W. 31st St.
During the Lenten season gather with others to pray, reflect and share in the Sunday gospels, using the ancient prayer practice of Lectio Divina (Divine Reading). Lectio Divina is the threefold reading of the scriptures that invites us to respond to God’s word and that makes its message relevant in our daily lives.
