EGGER builds new osb installation in radauti (romania)

Further extension of the plant in Romania – building permit application recently submitted

The wood-based material manufacturer EGGER will significantly expand its capacities for OSB board (oriented strand board). The chipboard plant in Radauti, which was opened in 2008, will be expanded with an OSB installation with a capacity of 300,000 m³ (10,494,400 cubic feet). 100 new jobs will be created. The approval process has now been initiated. Construction will commence after the building permit is issued, which is expected to happen within this calendar year. In particular, the markets of Central, Eastern and Southern Europe are to be supplied by the new plant.

“With this investment, EGGER is strengthening its position as a supplier of structural wood-based materials on the one hand; on the other hand, we are establishing the prerequisites in order to continue expanding our market presence in Eastern Europe,” summarises Ulrich Bühler, Head of Sales and Marketing EGGER Group. “Radauti offers ideal conditions for an OSB installation thanks to the existing plant infrastructure as well as the good supply of wood,” Bühler continues.

The Radauti plant with a chipboard capacity of 600,000 m³ (21,188,800 cubic feet) employs approximately 400 people. In addition to Romania, it supplies the surrounding Eastern European markets such as the Ukraine. The Radauti plant is gradually being developed into a fully integrated location. EGGER is currently building a resin plant. In addition, EGGER is in the process of constructing an administrative building in Radauti which is made almost entirely of EGGER materials and serves as a prototype for sustainable wood construction according to low-energy standards.

WOOD CONSTRUCTION SOLUTIONS

At this time, EGGER only has one OSB plant in Wismar (DE). With a staff that has grown to 750 employees in the meantime, various structural products have been produced there since 1999. This includes the production of EUROSTRAND® OSB boards and fibreboard for the DHF and DFF product range. High-density fibreboard (HDF) is also upgraded into laminate flooring on highly modern equipment. The production capacity of the Wismar plant is 720,000 m³ (25,426,560 cubic feet).
