INSIDE: Fun Times at LCR…Outdoor Worship & Picnic…Crop Walk…Field Trip…Prayer Shawl…Wish List…Lots of Thanks…Community & Synod Events…and so much more!!

Dear Friends in Christ,

This has been a hairy month for this pastor. September began with the blessing of selling my home in Taylor. Then we set into motion the adventure of buying one in Wimberley. I found a great place with an excellent view of what makes Wimberley so peaceful….the woods! So I began the process of collecting all the proper paperwork to get the deal going. Along the way I have hit snag after snag. Not enough information for the lender. Incomplete paperwork and/or more paperwork needed from the builder/seller. Hurricane in Houston area shuts down offices involved in the process. More paperwork to complete. More waiting to endure. It has become a month of testing my patience in this area of life!

I came across this old Chinese Proverb that says, “Patience is power; with time and patience the mulberry leaf becomes a silk gown.” I sure wish I could become that silk gown!! I’m sure most of you can relate. At some point in your life, your patience has been tested to the limits. And no matter how many times someone says, “Don’t worry, it will all work out. Just have patience. Keep waiting it out, it will happen!” -- we still get frustrated.

“All things come to him who waits - provided he knows what he is waiting for,” says Woodrow T. Wilson. Maybe that’s it…maybe I’m not sure what I’m waiting for. I often think that when I think about being your pastor. When I think about the vision and future of LCR, I ponder over the potential and stand in awe and waiting for the vision from God.

Habakkuk 2:3 says, “Though it tarries, wait for it…” Wait for that vision from God – personally and professionally, individually and as a community of believers.

Having the vision of God is the source of patience because it gives us God’s true and proper inspiration. I am reminded that we will know when the vision is of God because of the inspiration that comes with it! Things come to us with greatness and add vitality to our lives because everything is energized by God. If we have the inspiration of the vision of God, we have more than we can experience.

So I guess patience is a good thing. One of those spiritual gifts that is a blessing and a curse! I pray that I have patience within myself as we continue our journey of learning about one another. And that together we have prayerful patience to hear and see a vision of the coming months and years in ministry together for God.

Together we will forge ahead with patience and persistence to hear the call of God in our midst….in our homes, in our workplaces, in our community, and in our church.

Blessings, Peace, and Patience to us all,

Pastor Jennifer

GIVING OF OURSELVES

You are encouraged and invited to be in prayer about the giving of your time, talents and monetary contributions to the work and ministry of the Lutheran Church of the Resurrection. In October and November we will be distributing giving cards for you to prayerfully consider what type of monetary offering you will be able to give to the church in the coming year. We will also have the opportunity to fill out Time and Talent Sheets during our worship time. We hope to find a way for you to use your God given resources to serve Him through the work of the church.

“The Lord will guide you continually, and satisfy your needs in parched places, and make your bones strong; and you shall be like a watered garden, like a spring of water, whose waters never fail.” Isaiah 58:11

Take heart – you have enough to be a steward, and God can be trusted to lead you there. Please begin your prayerful journey today!

Crop Walk – October 12th

Our youth along with those from New Hope in Blanco, New Life in Dripping Springs and Living Word in Buda will participate in the Crop Hunger Walk on October 12th. You can help them achieve their goal by making your contribution to help alleviate hunger here at home and around the world. Funds collected will be given to local food banks, as well as hurricane victims and those in need around the world. Adults, families and youngsters are encouraged to participate, either by walking or sponsoring a walker. The goal is to raise $100/walker for those who are hungry. Scripture says, “if people are hungry, feed them; if they are thirsty, give them something to drink.” Jesus says to us what he said to Simon Peter, “Feed my sheep!” What a better way to begin, than through the CROP WALK. Contact Bev Ladzinksi or Brenda Tise to pick up a crop walker envelope. Extra forms are also available in the church narthex.

AND THEN…..

party after the walk

Make a day of fun out of the CROP WALK on October 12th. Plan to stick around with your families after the 1 hour walk to enjoy the great outdoors within the city. Breast cancer awareness month – Ocotober

Breast cancer is the 2nd most common cancer in women. The earlier breast cancer is diagnosed, the more effective treatment will be. Having annual mammograms after the age of 40 is one way that women can take charge of their health. The American Cancer Society offers information on mammograms and other ways women can decrease their risk of breast cancer. Brochures and info are available on the Welcome Table at the church.

PRAYER SHAWL MINISTRY

The Prayer Shawl Ministry began in April of this year and has a core group of six who meet monthly to pray and knit or crochet shawls for persons who may be ill, hospitalized, grieving or celebrating a birth of a child or a wedding. Fourteen persons have been recipients of these shawls in this short time. The following is enclosed with each shawl.

This shawl was made for you with loving hearts and hands. It was created with prayer and upon its completion was blessed by its maker and shawl ministers.

Through the warmth and comfort of this shawl may you experience God’s love and grace surrounding you in good times and difficult ones. May God’s Peace be with you always. Lutheran Church of the Resurrection’s Prayer Shawl Ministers

This ministry has been supported by a small amount in the church budget, the sale of LCR Cookbooks with matching funds by Thrivent and individual donations. Shawls are available to all members of the congregation and their family and friends in need. There is no charge for the shawls. If you desire a prayer shawl for someone, contact Harriet Powell, Colleen Kaye, Paula Johnson, Signe Griffin or Nancy Volotko.

We also invite you to join this ministry. It usually meets on the first Saturday of the month at 1PM. Watch for a sign-up sheet. If you aren’t sure if you would like to join this ministry, come and visit the group. All are welcome. Submitted by Harriet Powell

Next Prayer Shawl meeting is October 4th @ 1pm, Signe’s house (738 Hill Country Trail). Directions are available at the church office.

Quilting

On October 13th we will gather in the fellowship hall to tie quilts. We had a successful sew-in and now a batch of quilts is ready to be tied. No special skills are required. Come and join us from 1-3:00 p.m. that day as we enjoy each other’s company as we work on these Lutheran World Relief quilts. Any questions, please talk to Colleen Kaye.

Watch for further information as we prepare a raffle to help raise more funds for quilting. As always if you have cotton material or old sheets that you don’t need anymore, they can be donated to the church. Just bring them to Colleen.
