American Revolution and Statehood Assignment Menu

Directions: You must complete four assignments from the American Revolution and Statehood Unit (History Standard 3). Choose one from each difficulty level and one from each learning preference. Only one assignment can be from difficulty level 1. The total points received will add up to 100, so if you complete two from difficulty level three, you have some points to spare.

Create a propaganda poster to persuade your fellow colonials to join the Continental Army.

What would happen to the colonies if the British were not preoccupied with other fights around the world? Explain in at least 3 paragraphs. / Read the play “The Boston Massacre”, and write a letter to the editor expressing how you feel about the massacre. (minimum of 3 paragraphs)

Each) / Create a chart showing the strengths/weaknesses of the Articles of Confederation for both the State and Central governments.
Or
Create a graphic organizer listing 5 causes of the Revolution and include this information:
-What is the event?
-What is the cause of this event?
-What was the effect?
-What was finally done to deal with this event? / Read “Give Me Liberty or Give Me Death” by Patrick Henry. Explain in your own words in at least 5 paragraphs what Henry meant by “Give Me Liberty or Give Me Death?”

Read “These are the times that try men’s soul’s” by Thomas Paine. Compare/contrast Paine’s time period of the Revolution and our time with the fighting the war on terror and how the event is ‘trying our soul’s’. (at least 5 paragraphs)

Read “Georgia at the Constitutional Convention.”
1)Explain why Georgia sided with the larger states (minimum 2 paragraphs.)
2) Explain why Georgia’s role at the Constitutional Convention saved the Constitution. (minimum 2 paragraphs.) / Write a patriotic song/poem to reflect one of the battles of the Revolution.

Create a propaganda poster supporting a revision of the Articles of Confederation. / You are one of the important Revolutionary patriots, write in your journal with at least 3 entries from different days detailing your thoughts and feelings on 3 specific events during the Revolutionary time period.

each) / Write a 2 page biography on one of the important people during the Revolution.
Or
Create a 25 item multiple choice, matching, and fill in the blank test for the American Revolution. Provide an Answer Key. / Persuasive Speech: Create a persuasive to convince Georgia colonist to either remain loyal to Great Britain or join the Revolution (pick one). (must be a full page.)
Or
Create a newspaper front page. Include: Newspaper Title, front page headline, and 4 articles for the following topics 1-Act, 1-event, 1-battle, and 1-aftermath of war. Make to include the date for each article. / Assemble a collage that represents the different events/themes that caused the Revolution.
Or
Read the article “Who Were the Loyalists?” and draw a propaganda poster to persuade Americans to remain loyal to the king. / You are Lord Cornwallis, tell the story of the Battle of Yorktown to your children. In writing (1 1/4pages typed or 2 pages handwritten) or audio tape (2 minutes).
Or
Get with 4 people (no more, no less) and record a 3-5 minute documentary of one event in the Revolution.
  • You will have four class days to complete this Assignment Menu. At the end of class on the fourth day, you may turn in the completed Assignment Menu.
  • For each activity chosen, you must write the name of the activity, difficulty level and learning preference on the header of your paper.
