Edward W. Marx (long version)

Ed serves as the Chief Information Officer (CIO) for University Hospitals. University Hospitals (UH) is the premier healthcare delivery system in Northern Ohio, serving patients at more than 150 locations. The System also includes a network of specialty care physicians, skilled nursing, elder health, rehabilitation and home care services, managed care and insurance programs, occupational health & wellness, and the most comprehensive behavioral health services in the region.

The System's 947-bed, tertiary medical center, Case Medical Center (CMC), is the primary affiliate of CaseWestern ReserveUniversity. Together, they form the largest center for biomedical research in the State of Ohio. Nearly 25,000 physicians and employees comprise UH and its partner hospitals, ranking it northern Ohio’s largest employer. The System provides more than 3 million outpatient visits and 110,000 inpatient discharges annually. UH goal is to provide comprehensive primary and community-based care—the kind of healthcare people need most—as well as access to the highest quality specialty care when necessary.

Prior to UH, Ed worked in a variety of IT and management roles with organizations such as HCA, Parkview Health System and Poudre Valley Health System.

Ed earned a MS in Business and a BS in Psychology, both from ColoradoStateUniversity. A Fellow of the Healthcare Information Management Systems Society (HIMSS) and member of the College of Healthcare Information Management Executives (CHIME), Ed is active in both organizations speaking at events across the country. Ed served as the President of the Ohio and Tennessee Chapters of HIMSS and as the HIMSS Board appointed Chair of the Membership Services Committee.

Concurrently with his healthcare career, Ed served 15 years in the Army Reserve, first as an EMT, then as a Combat Engineer Officer.

Outside of the office, Ed enjoys ballroom dancing with hiswife and chasing after his son in competitive triathlons and watching his daughter reach black belt in Tae Kwon Do. Ed and his wife are also active in their local church and community.
